CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team defeated Winthrop 4-3 Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten through three home matches played at the Stevens Tennis Complex this season.
 
Coastal (4-2) won the important doubles point before splitting the six singles points with Winthrop (5-4).
 
Coastal's first and second pairings won by identical 6-1 margins. Joel Popov and Zak Talic downed Gabriel Dias and Diego Quiroz at No. 1, while Luiz Faria and Lawrence Perrin bested Connor Williamson and Lluis Miralles at No. 2.
 
The No. 3 doubles match went unfinished after the point was won.
 
Coastal's singles points came on courts two, four and five, and all were won in straight sets.
 
Talic defeated Dias at No. 2, 6-2, 7-5. Popov enjoyed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Aditya Gokhale at No. 4. Daiki Tanabe ran away with the No. 5 versus Miralles, 6-1, 6-3.
 
Winthrop won the No. 6 court in straight sets, and claimed three-set victories on courts one and three.
 
Coastal's plays a pair of away matches next weekend, starting at Elon on Friday and ending at Duke on Saturday.
