Taylor Earns Top 15 Finish; Chants Place 10th Overall

Coastal Carolina’s Zack Taylor finished in a tie for 13th overall at the home event

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Coastal Carolina's Zack Taylor and Wes Artac both turned in scores below par on the third round of play on Tuesday to move up double-digit spots on the leaderboard and post a pair of top 25 finishes at the 2019 General Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Taylor posted a final round 70, -2 under par, to end the three-round event in a tie for 13th-place overall with his 54-hole score of 213, -3 under par (69-74-70). The junior totaled an eagle, a team-high 10 birdies and 34 pars over the two-day event.

Artac recorded a round of 71, -1 under par, on Tuesday to jump 13 spots up the leaderboard and finish in 21st-place overall with a 54-hole score of 216, even par. The senior transfer registered 37 pars and nine birdies, which were both tied for the second-most on the team.

The Chanticleers finished 10th overall as a team, posting rounds of 288, 293 and 296 for their 54-hole tournament score of 877, +13. CCU was third overall in the tournament field with 172 pars as a team over the three rounds of play.

Coastal finished in front of Kent State (882, +18), North Texas (885, +21) and Northern Illinois (897, +33).

Playing in the No. 5 spot in the Chants lineup, senior Morgan Deneen finished the day with a score of 77, +5, to shoot rounds of 71, 74 and 77 to place in a tie for 49th overall with his tournament score of 222, +6.

Fellow teammates States Fort (77-72-78, 227, +11) and Luis Ruiz (80-73-82, 235, +19) finished in 65th and 74th, respectively, as both struggled over the final round of play on Tuesday. Fort led the team with 38 pars over his 54 holes of play.

Playing as individuals, Daniel Overas carded a round of 75, +3 on the day and added to his first two rounds of 72, even par, to end the tournament in a tie for 29th overall with his three-round combined tournament score of 219, +3.

Also competing as individuals, the Chants Connor Newton finished in a tie for 49th overall with his rounds of 71, 74 and 77 for a 54-hole score of 222, +6, while fellow freshman Brady Hinkle ended in 64th overall with his three-round score of 225, +9 (71-72-82). Newton was one of just two Chants to record an eagle for the tournament, while Hinkle totaled nine birdies over his three rounds of play.

Fellow freshman Tyler Gray followed up his first two rounds of 75 and 78 with another round of 78, +6, on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 70th-place overall with his 54-hole score of 231, +15.

No. 18 North Florida led from start to finish to pick up the tournament win with a 54-hole team score of 843, -21 under par.

No. 6 Wake Forest (848, -16) placed second, while No. 25 Liberty (849, -15), No. 29 Louisville (853, -11) and No. 17 Georgia (854, -10) rounded out the top five on the team leaderboard.

The Chanticleers will return to the links in two weeks at the Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. on March 22-24.
