Opening Tip
• Coastal Carolina enters the Roman CBI Tournament with a 15-16 overall record.
• CCU finished in sixth place in the Sun Belt Conference with a 9-9 record ... It is
the highest conference finish for the Chanticleers since entering the Sun Belt.
• This is the 10th post-season national appearance in the history of the CCU
program.
• The Chants have made four NCAA appearances, two NIT appearances, two
Collegeinsider.com tournaments and this will be the second appearance in
the CBI Tournament.
• The Chants made their first appearance in the CBI following the 2017 season ...
CCU went on to finish as the runners-up in the event.
• The Chants defeated Hampton, Loyola and Illinois-Chicago to make it into the
best two-of-three championship finals ... After defeating Wyoming in the first
game, CCU made the trip to Laramie where they lost the next two games to
the Cowboys.
• CCU is 7-10 all-time in post-season tournaments.
• Zac Cuthbertson became the 22nd player in CCU history to score 1,000 career
points ... He became just the third player to do it in two seasons.
• Cuthbertson was named Second Team All-Sun Belt.
• DeVante Jones was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year ... An impressive
honor considering he missed 12 games after an injury in the second game of
the season.
• Head Coach Cliff Ellis has led the Chanticleers to eight of the program's nine
post-season appearances ... He has led teams he has coached to 26 in all.

About Howard University
• Howard enters the tournament with a 17-16 overall record.
• The Bison finished tied for third in the MEAC with a 10-6 conference record ... The team they were tied for third was
North Carolina Central, a team the Chants defeated 69-65 earlier this season.
• Howard had three players named to the All-MEAC Team.
• Headlining that team is RJ Cole ... Not only was he named First Team All-MEAC, he was named the MEAC Player of
the Year.
• Charles Williams joined Cole on the First Team and Chad Lott was named Second Team.
• Cole, a sophomore, averages 21.6 points per game and recently became the fastest Bison to reach 1,000 career
points, reaching the milestone in only 44 games ... He shoots 42 percent from the field and hits almost 40 percent
of his three-point attempts ... He is also deadly from the free throw line shooting over 81 percent ... His 210 assists
are a team high as are his 61 steals.
• Williams averages 17.9 points per game and is the team's top free throw shooter at over 85 percent.
• Lott averages 14.3 points per game and his .483 field goal percentage is tops on the team and his .429 three-point
percentage is also the team's best.
• Zion Cousins is the team's top rebounder averaging 7.3 per game and his 34 blocked shots is also a team-best.
• Howard is averaging just over 79 points per game and is allowing just over 78 points per game.
• ULM is the conference's leading free throw shooting team with a .778 percentage.
• Like the Chants, Howard was involved in several close games ... Of their 16 losses, nine of those were by seven points
or less ... Their last four losses were by four points or less.
• The Bison have played two Sun Belt teams this season; a 97-76 loss at Little Rock; and a 100-86 loss at Appalachian
State.
• Howard and Coastal Carolina have four like opponents as both teams have played Little Rock, Appalachian State,
North Carolina Central and Hampton.
• Howard is one of the few teams that has a better road record than home record ... The Bison are 9-7 on the road and
2-2 at neutral locations going 11-9 overall playing away from Howard ... By comparison they were 6-7 at home.
