Beadle’s Buzzer Beater Lifts Chants Over JMU For Program Record Win

HARRISONBURG, Va. Joshua Beadle scored 29 points and knocked down the game-winning jumper with 0.9 seconds left as Coastal Carolina earned its first-ever win over James Madison, 69-68, Friday night at Atlantic Union Bank Center in the regular season finale for both teams.

The victory also gave the Chanticleers a program-record 11 Sun Belt Conference wins. Coastal improved to 19-12 overall and 11-7 in league play, while JMU slipped to 17-14 overall and 9-9 in the Sun Belt.

Beadle went 11-for-21 from the field and 6-for-6 at the free-throw line, adding seven rebounds, two assists and a steal while playing 36 minutes. AJ Dancler added 20 points, hitting 3 of 7 from beyond the arc and a perfect 5-for-5 at the stripe, while also dishing out three assists.

Coastal's defense and effort plays were pivotal in the second half. The Chanticleers scored 12 points off turnovers and finished with 34 points in the paint while committing just seven turnovers. Tristan Thompson and Derrick Green helped steady the game physically off the bench/rotation, combining for seven rebounds in limited minutes, and Reggie Hill provided five points, two assists and two steals.

Nadjrick Peat anchored the interior with 10 rebounds (five offensive) and two blocks, and his putback layup with 5:10 left helped Coastal regain momentum in a one-possession game. Peat then threw down a two-handed dunk with 2:06 remaining to give Coastal a 65-63 lead.

James Madison answered behind Cliff Davis, who finished with 25 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:38 left that put the Dukes in front 66-65. Beadle responded with a driving layup at the 1:13 mark to reclaim the lead, but Gabe Newhof's layup with 51 seconds left pushed JMU back in front, 68-67.

After a defensive stop, Coastal put the ball in Beadle's hands and he delivered, knocking down the winner with 0.9 seconds left. The Dukes' final look at the buzzer was off target, sealing a historic night for the Chanticleers.

Coastal trailed 33-31 at the half before using a 19-9 spurt early in the second half to grab its largest lead at 50-44 with 10:33 remaining. The game featured six ties and 11 lead changes as Coastal closed it out in the final seconds.
