DURHAM, N.C. - The Coastal softball team picked up a mid-week road win, 11-4, against the Duke Blue Devils on Tuesday afternoon as they now improve to 23-6 on the season. Seniors
Chelsea D'Avilar and
Alexis Alvino had the biggest hits for the team as duo combined for two home runs and nine runs batted in.
Duke loaded the bases on one hit to start the bottom of the first and then cleanup hitter, Kristina Foreman hit sacrifice to right field off Chanticleer starter
Ashley Guillette to score leadoff hitter Rachael Aboud for a 1-0 lead.
Coastal countered with two of their own in the top of the second as right fielder
Stavi Augur led off with a double over the head Jameson Kavel in right field. The sophomore then scored on a weak ground ball by D'Avilar to shortstop Marissa Gagliano. Gagliano charged the ball hard and was unable to come up with the ball cleanly. The Chants picked up their second run later in the inning on an RBI walk by sophomore
Courtney Dean.
After Coastal picked up a run in the third, the Chanticleers added four more as senior third baseman, D'Avilar added her third homer of the season, grand slam style, to give CCU a 7-1 lead.
The Blue Devils picked up two runs in the bottom of the third and cut the Coastal lead to 7-3. Deja Davis scored on single by Foreman and then the Duke right fielder was able to score from third base on a sacrifice foul out from Caroline Jacobsen.

Kelley Green went to the bullpen and sophomore
Kaitlin Beasley-Polko preserve the lead for her team.
The Chant right-hander allowed a Duke run in the fifth as Jacobsen added her second RBI of the game with a single up the middle to score Deja Davis who singled earlier in the inning.
Shortstop
Alexis Alvino gave CCU an insurmountable lead in the top of the sixth as Chant senior hit her second sixth inning homer in three games and her third of the season to give the Chants a 11-4 win.
Beasley-Polko pitched four innings, gave up three hits, with three strikeouts, and to add her second leading win total in the Sun Belt of 14.
D'Avilar led the Chants at the plate by going 2-for-4, a homer, and six RBI. Dean went 3-for-3, and Alvino and Augur each tallied two hits on the day; and one extra base hit

The Chanticleers will return to action this weekend as they host the 18-12 Troy Trojans at St. John Stadium in Sun Belt Conference play.
