Chants At Home This Weekend Against Troy


CONWAY - The 23-6 Coastal Carolina softball team is back action this weekend as they host the 18-13 Troy Trojans in Sun Belt Conference play at St. John Stadium.

The Chanticleers are coming into the weekend with a 4-2 conference record and in third place.
               
On Tuesday, the Chants traveled and defeated the Duke Blue Devils as seniors Chelsea D'Avilar and Alexis Alvino combined for two home run and nine runs batted in.

D'Avilar had a third inning grand slam along with another base hit in the win, going 2-for-4 with a career-high six runs batted in. The total number of RBI the CCU third baseman racked up in the game tied for second most in CCU history.
 
After Duke cut the lead to 7-4 in the fourth inning, Alvino put the game away in the sixth for the Chants with her third home run of the season with a three-run home run.
 
Alvino and, sophomores Courtney Dean and Stavi Augur also had multi-hit games.
 
Dean went 3-for-3 in the game and now has hit safely in ten of her last 11 games. In that stretch,  the CCU center fielder had an eight game hitting streak that ended last weekend at Georgia Southern, but has hit .433, three home runs, eight RBI, and eight walks in that stretch.
 
Sophomore Kaitlin Beasley-Polko improved to 14-4 in her four-inning relief appearance against Duke. The righty gave up three hits, with three strikeouts.
 
Beasley-Polko currently sits in second in the conference with those 14 wins, second with a 1.42 ERA, third with 108.1 innings pitched, third with 100 strikeouts, and first with three saves.
 
Troy
 
Troy comes into this weekend, tied for fourth in the conference with a 2-4 record and are losers of their last five after losing a mid-week matchup to Georgia Tech on Tuesday at home by the score of 5-1.
 
The Trojans were only able to pick up two hits against Georgia Tech.
 
Kaylee Hussey picked up an RBI single that led to Troy's only run of the game.
 
In the circle, Troy has two players have a sub 3.00 ERA.
 
Leanna Johnson is the leader for the Trojans with a 12-5 record and a 2.48 ERA. The freshman has struck out 117 batters on the season which is good for second in Sun Belt.
 
Sophomore Annie Willis received accolades in 2018 as she was named First Team All-Sun Belt along with
Freshman of the Year when she finished with a 17-9 record and an ERA of 2.57.
 
So far in 2019, Willis is second on the team with a 2.97 ERA and has a record of 5-7.

First pitch on Friday for Coastal Carolina and Troy will be at 4:00 p.m. The two will be play at 2:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Live stats for the weekend's games can be found on goccusports and the two will play Saturday's game on the Chanticleer Sports Network.
