CONWAY – With rain in the forecast for Sunday's game three between the Chanticleers (26-10, 6-6 SB) and ULM Warhawks (5-29, 2-10 SB), the two teams decided to play a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. After a game one loss, Coastal was able to pick up a win in the second game of the day as it featured four home runs by Chanticleer batters.
Game 2
It was all Coastal Carolina in game two as starter
Kaitlin Beasley-Polko went the distance to improve to 17-6 in the 8-0 win. The sophomore pitched five innings, giving up just two hits with three punch-outs. Her 17
th wins is good second in the conference and the complete game was her conference leading 13
th.
In the bottom of the first, sophomore
Taylor Sweigart walked to lead off and junior
Kassidy Smith hit a towering home run off of starter Murphy Williams that hit the batting cage in center field.
Coastal picked up two runs in the third, but put the game away in the fifth as they scored four off three more homers. Sophomore
Stavi Augur led off with her sixth of the season into right center. Next batter, freshman
Abbey Montoya tripled to center and then senior
Alexis Alvino blasted her second home run of the day. ULM, picked up an out, but catcher
Samantha Sack ended the game with her second home and third of the year.
Alvino had three runs batted in game two, while Smith and Augur had two each.
The four through six batters in the Chanticleers lineup went a combined 6-for-8 with six RBI.
Game 1
The Warhawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but CCU took the lead in the bottom of the second from solo home runs by Alvino and Sack.
That was the last time Chanticleers would have a lead in game one as ULM added four in the top of the third and added five more in the fifth.
Six of the eight Monroe batters had a hit in the game as Korie Kreps led her team at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.
Jacylyn Kresta and Jessie Watts led their team with two runs scored.
Chanticleer
Ashley Guillette took the loss, dropping to 9-4. The senior pitched 4.1 innings, allowing eight hits on nine runs, seven earned.
On the afternoon for Coastal Carolina, Alvino went 4-for-4, with four RBI, and a walk.
The Chants will be in action again on Tuesday as they take on the UNCW Seahawks at home at St. John Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
