MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team won its third straight match Thursday afternoon, picking up a 7-0 shutout over Ashland in a neutral-site match played on the clay courts of the Grande Dunes Tennis Club.
 
The Chanticleers improve to 7-3 overall this season as they prepare to embark on their spring break trip to Daytona Beach, Fla., over the next few days. There, the Chants play a pair of matches against UNC Greensboro (March 9) and Embry-Riddle (March 11).
 
Thursday's shutout began with a sweep of the doubles point.
 
Luiz Faria and Lawrence Perrin started things off with a 6-0 blanking at No. 2. Joel Popov and Zak Talic clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 1, and Francesco Cori and Juan Castellanos finished the sweep at No. 3, 6-4.
 
All six singles points were won by Coastal in straight sets.
 
Faria picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1, while Talic posted a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2. Popov (No. 3) and Achondo (No. 4) won their matches with matching scores of 6-1, 6-0. Daiki Tanabe claimed the No. 5 point, 6-3, 6-1, and Pyry Hyrkkonen emerged victorious at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.
