CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team finished off its regular season schedule with a 4-0 shutout of Appalachian State Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
 
Coastal ends the regular season 15-7 overall and 5-2 in Sun Belt Conference matches.
 
Prior to Saturday's match versus the Mountaineers Coastal honored the lone member of its senior class, Luiz Faria. The University and team also held a ceremony dedicating the fourth court to Andy Caress, a Coastal Carolina men's tennis student-athlete from 2003-07 who passed away in 2010 following a battle with melanoma. The Caress family was in attendance for the dedication and Coastal win.
 
The match was delayed due to rain in the area, and began with singles. Coastal earned the four points needed in singles and no doubles matches were played.
 
All four singles matches were won in straight sets.
 
Zak Talic took the second court 6-1, 6-0. Gonzalo Achondo won the No. 5 match, 6-3, 6-4. Pyry Hyrkkonen won the No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-2, on the court dedicated to Caress.
 
Faria provided the match-winning point at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
 
"Despite the rain delay it was amazing day celebrating Luiz and dedicating Court 4 for Andy Caress," said CCU head coach Chris Powers. "Pyry played lights out in front of the Caress family on that court, and Luiz clinched the match on his senior day. It doesn't get much better than that."
 
The 2019 Sun Belt Championship begins Friday, April 19 from Peachtree City, Ga., and the Chants will enter the tournament on a three-match winning streak.
