Chants Chatter
  • Springs Brooks Stadium, which opened in time for the 2015 season, is hosting its first-ever conference championship tournament this week with the 2019 Sun Belt Baseball Championship. It is also the first conference tournament that Coastal Carolina has hosted since holding the 2006 Big South Championship at Watson Stadium.
  • By earning the No. 5 seed with their win in the regular-season finale versus Appalachian State on Saturday, May 18, the Chanticleers gave themselves two lives in avoiding the single elimination round and starting the tournament in the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
  • This year's Sun Belt Baseball Championship Tournament is the Chants third conference tournament since joining the league in 2017.
  • Coastal has an overall record of 4-1 in the Sun Belt Baseball Championship Tournament over its first two years in the Sun Belt Conference. CCU went 0-1 in its first Sun Belt Tournament in 2017 before sweeping through the conference championship tournament with four-straight wins (4-0) on its way to the championship title in last year's tournament.
  • Coastal had five players earn conference postseason honors highlighted by Jake Wright being named the Community Coffee Newcomer of the Year. Senior Zach Biermann and sophomore Parker Chavers were both named to the All-Sun Belt first team, while senior Kieton Rivers, redshirt junior Kyle Skeels and Wright all earned spots on the second team.
  • The magic number for CCU this season is six - as in six runs. Coastal is 28-7 overall on the year when scoring six runs or more in a game and just 2-16-1 when scoring less than six runs. When holding its opponents to six runs or less, the Chants are 19-4-1, yet are only 11-19 when allowing six runs or more.
  • The Chants have seven players hitting over .300 on the season that have played in over 48 games this year. Jake Wright leads the team with a .340 batting average on the season, while Scott McKeon (.333), Kieton Rivers (.332), Cameron Pearcey (.316), Cory Wood (.308), Parker Chavers (.307) and Zach Biermann (.303) are all hitting over .300 on the year.
  • Coastal has had eight different pitchers make a start on the mound for them this season in Austin Kitchen (12), Anthony Veneziano (11), Zach McCambley (10), Garrett McDaniels (8), Nick Parker (6), Scott Kobos (3), Matt Eardensohn (3) and Bobby Holmes (1).
  • Coastal Carolina's pitching staff is averaging 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings this season. The Chants have struck out double-digit batters in each of their last four games including a season-high 17 punch-outs versus Appalachian State on May 16.
  • The Chants lead the Sun Belt in 10 different statistical categories this season. CCU leads the league in batting average (.300), base on balls (294), hits (572), home runs (69), on-base percentage (.410), runs scored (421), scoring (7.8 runs per game), slugging percentage (.486), triples (18) and strikeouts per nine innings (9.1).
