2019 Chanticleer Gala – Celebrating Success

This year’s Chanticleer Gala was once again a record-setting year for the CAF and Chanticleer athletics
Conway, S.C. – The Chanticleer Athletic Foundation (CAF) hosted its annual Chanticleer Gala presented by King Construction Services Inc. on April 26 to raise a record amount of funds for student-athlete scholarships and athletic operational needs.
Each year, this signature evening is filled with entertainment and fellowship for Teal Nation at the Marriott Grande Dunes with Tru Sol providing the live entertainment. The CAF raised more than $110,000 for CCU athletics through its silent and live auctions, breaking the record of funds raised that was set at last year's gala.
This year's auctions featured a Kentucky Derby trip, a paid trip to the Country Music Awards (CMAS), a Lake Placid trip, a Napa Valley trip, a New York Broadway trip, two CCU-themed golf carts and a unique Chanticleer diamond encrusted necklace, along with a number of items available via silent auction.
The Chanticleer Gala also serves as a time to recognize the Chanticleer of the Year. Stan and Denise Parker were both named the Chanticleers of the Year, marking the second time multiple people have been honored for the prestigious award.
The Chanticleer of the Year is awarded to an outstanding individual(s) or entity that exemplifies the spirit of the Chanticleer by embracing the vision of Coastal Carolina University athletics. Their encouragement and support has been vital to the continued growth and success of Coastal Carolina athletics and Teal Nation.
The Parker family is deeply rooted in Coastal Carolina University. Stan Parker grew up in Horry County and graduated from Socastee High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from CCU in 1983. Denise Parker, a native of Maryland, was a non-traditional student who worked while also attending classes part-time. She earned dual degrees in accounting and finance in 1998. Their daughter, Sarah Parker Christopher, earned a musical theatre degree in 2018. She is the founder/owner of Cheers & Champagne, a full-service event planning business based in Myrtle Beach.
Stan Parker is the co-founder of Flagship Construction Inc., which opened in Myrtle Beach in 1999, and Denise Parker is the owner of DAP of MB real estate company.
The Parkers are widely known in the area and are recognized for their volunteerism as well as their philanthropic support of their alma mater and the community. They generously contribute to CCU's athletic and academic programs. Their gifts benefited the Chanticleer Gala, the Brooks Stadium expansion project, the CCU Spirit Teams, the James F. Eason Endowed Professorship in Accounting, the Alumni Association's annual Boots and Bronze event, and endowed scholarship funds within the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration and the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
Their nonprofit organization, 40 Friends (which now boasts many more supporters), raises funds for various causes and charities within the community. In recent years, it has helped underprivileged children attend sports camps and athletic events at CCU. Stan Parker also is the longtime president of the Beach Ball Classic – one of the nation's oldest and most respected high school basketball tournaments.
The Parkers also are mainstays at Chanticleer athletic events – both at home and away. One of their best memories is traveling to Omaha to watch the baseball team capture the University's first-ever national title in 2016.
