No Stranger to NCAA Regional Play
  • Coastal will be playing in the program's 17th NCAA Regional and 16th under head coach Gary Gilmore.
  • This weekend's regional marks the second time that the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers have played in an NCAA Regional in Atlanta, Ga., as the Chants were the No. 4 seed in the 2002 Atlanta Regional.
  • Coastal lost to the No. 1-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 6-0 in the first game, bounced back to defeat the No. 3 Louisville Cardinals 9-1 in game two but then fell to No. 2 Georgia 9-7 at the 2002 regional.
Versus the Atlanta Regional Field
  • Coastal has never played either Auburn or Florida A&M on the baseball diamond.
  • The Chants are 7-18 all-time versus Georgia Tech and are 1-2 in NCAA Regional play versus the Yellow Jackets. CCU lost to the Jackets 11-7 in 1978 at the NCAA Atlantic Regional hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. The Chants then defeated No. 15 Georgia Tech 5-3 in the first game of the 2001 NCAA Georgia Regional hosted by Georgia in Athens, Ga. GT defeated Coastal 6-0 one year later in the 2002 NCAA Atlanta Regional hosted by Georgia Tech.
Last Time the Chants Played at Russ Chandler Stadium
  • The last time Coastal Carolina played at Russ Chandler Stadium was in 2016, as the No. 25-nationally ranked Jackets swept Coastal 9-1, 9-8 and 4-2 (7) in the three-game non-conference series.
  • However, after the series current redshirt senior Bobby Holmes picked up Rafiki, a stuffed monkey, and as they say "the rest is history". CCU went on to finish the season at 24-4, including winning 12-straight games, win the NCAA Raleigh Regional, sweep LSU in the NCAA Baton Rouge Super Regional and then defeat Florida, Texas Tech, TCU and Arizona en route to winning the 2016 College World Series and becoming National Champions.
Chants Chatter

That set a new Sun Belt Tournament team record for the most home runs by a team in the postseason conference tournament.

  • The magic number for CCU this season is six - as in six runs. Coastal is 33-8 overall on the year when scoring six runs or more in a game and just 2-16-1 when scoring less than six runs. When holding its opponents to six runs or less, the Chants are 20-4-1, yet are only 15-20 when allowing six runs or more.
  • The seventh inning has been huge for the Chants this season, as Coastal has scored a total of 68 runs in the seventh inning this season, the most of any inning on the year. CCU has posted a "big inning" in the seventh inning a season-best six times this year.

Coastal also leads the Sun Belt with 552 strikeouts overall on the year and has nine pitchers that have more strikeouts then innings pitched this season.

 On Deck
  • With a win over Auburn on Friday afternoon, the Chants will play the winner of FAMU and Georgia Tech on Saturday, June 1, at 7 p.m. ET. A loss to the Tigers puts Coastal in the 1 p.m. ET game on Saturday versus the loser between the Rattlers and the Yellow Jackets.
