CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team started the 2019 season with an exhibition game against UNC Greensboro. The Chants used two second half goals to pull out a tough 2-1 victory over the Spartans.
After a scoreless first half, the Spartans opened up the scoring in the 74
th minute on a Fowler Cameron goal which was assisted by Aidan Wixted.
That lead lasted less than a minute as CCU's
Antonio La Gamba evened the score on an unassisted goal just 39 seconds after UNCG had taken the lead.
Claudio Repetto's goal in the 80
th minute turned out to be the game-winner. Repetto's goal came on a rare double assist from
Marcelo Lage and La Gamba.
CCU outshot the visitors 11-3 with six of those shots coming on goal. The Chants played over 20 players in the opening exhibition with all three goalkeepers seeing action.
It will be a quick turnaround for CCU as the Chants will host in-state rival Clemson Tuesday Aug. 20 at the CCU Soccer Field. The exhibition game with the Tigers is set to begin at 6 p.m.
