CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team started the 2019 season with an exhibition game against UNC Greensboro. The Chants used two second half goals to pull out a tough 2-1 victory over the Spartans.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Spartans opened up the scoring in the 74^th minute on a Fowler Cameron goal which was assisted by Aidan Wixted.
 
That lead lasted less than a minute as CCU's Antonio La Gamba evened the score on an unassisted goal just 39 seconds after UNCG had taken the lead.
 
Claudio Repetto's goal in the 80^th minute turned out to be the game-winner. Repetto's goal came on a rare double assist from Marcelo Lage and La Gamba.
 
CCU outshot the visitors 11-3 with six of those shots coming on goal. The Chants played over 20 players in the opening exhibition with all three goalkeepers seeing action.
 
It will be a quick turnaround for CCU as the Chants will host in-state rival Clemson Tuesday Aug. 20 at the CCU Soccer Field. The exhibition game with the Tigers is set to begin at 6 p.m.
