CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina University men's soccer team will open up the 2019 regular season on a west coast trip that will see them face two top-25 nationally-ranked programs.
The Chanticleers will face 22
nd-ranked Oregon State to open the season. The Beavers and Chants have never met on the pitch with the opening match set to be played at Lorenz Field Friday, Aug. 30. The game will be a late one on the east coast with the start time scheduled for 10:30 p.m./7:30 p.m. PT.
The Chants are looking to build on its 10-6 record of 2018 where they also finished 2-2 in the Sun Belt Conference. CCU will be led by all-conference returners
Tsiki Ntsabeleng,
Jeranimo Power and
Tyrone Mondi.
The Beavers are coming off a season which saw them go 11-6-1 overall and finish second in the PAC-12 with a 6-3-1 record. After defeating SMU in the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Championship, they dropped a hard-fought 1-0 match to fourth-ranked Saint Mary's in the second round.
The season-opener will be the first of four consecutive games against ranked-teams that CCU will start the season with.
Following Friday night's outing, the Chants will stay in the state of Oregon to play at 20
th-ranked Portland. The Pilots and Chanticleers faced each other last season for the first time. Portland won that outing 2-1 on a late goal. The match is scheduled for an 8 p.m. (ET) start on Sunday, Sept. 1.
The Pilots finished 12-4-3 last season and 3-3-1 in the WCC. Like Oregon State, Portland played into the second round of the NCAA Championship and finished the season ranked 21
st.
