CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will open Sun Belt action this weekend when the Chanticleers host Georgia Southern and Troy on Friday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept 22 respectively.
The Chanticleers will recognize their alumni at intermission on Friday night.
The team will be wearing rainbow shoelaces against the Eagles as part of the #PlayWithPride week which is sponsored by the United Soccer Coaches LGBT & Allies Advocacy Group. The Play With Pride week is from Sept. 16-22. The USC is encouraging all players and coaches to wear the rainbow laces during matches and post on social media using #PlayWithPride to promote their team's participation in Play With Pride week.
On the season, the Chants are 2-4-1 overall. The offense is paced by junior
Sunny Sigurvinsdottir and freshman
Megan Brouse.
Sigurvinsdottir has a team high-eight points on four goals while Brouse is second with six points on two goals and two assists.
CCU's last time out came on Sunday, Sept. 15 against the Richmond Spiders which was a double-overtime match that ended in a 3-3 draw. Sigurvinsdottir scored the first goal of the game in the seventh minute to put the Chants up 1-0 before Richmond took a one-goal lead on back-to-back goals in the 19th and 25th minutes. Coastal evened the match in the 29th minute on a
Hannah Miller goal and took its second one-goal lead in the 54th minute with the first career goal by
Loranna Austin. The Spiders tied it up in the 79th minute where it would remain 3-3 for the next 30 minutes of action.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN vs COASTAL ALL-TIME SERIES
GSU holds a record of 3-4 on the season and enters Friday night's contest on a three-game losing streak. The Eagles offense is led by Frida Brattum with 11 points on five goals and one assist and Marcela Montoya with two goals and two assists for six points.
Georgia Southern's last match ended up in a 1-0 loss to UAB on Sept. 15. In the game, the Eagles were outshot 13-5. The Blazers scored in the 55th minute for the game-winner.
HISTORY vs. Coastal
Against the Eagles, the Chanticleers hold the overall series record at 5-3-2 and carry a two-game winning streak. CCU traveled to Statesboro, Ga. in the last outing to claim a 2-0 win last season. CCU's Miller scored the game-winning goal in the 20th minute.
TROY vs COASTAL ALL-TIME SERIES
The Trojans are 5-1-2 in 2019 with a two-game winning streak. Kiersten Edlund (three goals and four assists for 10 points) and Nathali Dasilva (three goals for six points) lead the offensive attack while Haleigh Mercer anchors the defense with eight goals allowed while making 40 saves.
Troy defeated Jacksonville 1-0 on Sept. 15. Caroline Tully scored her first goal of the season in the 94th minute for the golden goal winner.
HISTORY vs. Coastal
The second game of the week for Coastal will be against Troy. The Chants are 3-0 all-time against the Trojans. CCU picked up a 2-1 victory on the road in 2018 on goals from former Chanticleer
Lauren Dabner and Miller.
