Men's Soccer to Host VCU on Wednesday Night

Game Notes

CONWAY – After starting the 2019 season with four consecutive road games, the Coastal Carolina men's soccer team will host Virginia Commonwealth Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. The game is the third consecutive home game for the Chants and is the last game of the current three-game homestand.

CCU enters the game with a two-game winning streak and VCU comes in with a 2-4 record. The two teams have played nine times on the pitch with VCU owning a slim 5-4 edge in the series which started back in 2001.

The last time the teams met was in 2017, a game which went into overtime before VCU won 1-0. CCU has won four of the last six meetings in the series with Wednesday's game being the sixth time the game has been held in Conway.

Sam Snaith leads the Chants in scoring, thanks to his three-goal performance in CCU's win over Radford. He has six points on the season, followed by Tyrone Mondi and Claudio Repetto who have five points each. DZ Harmon leads the team in assists with three which is at the top of the conference.

Alberto Ciroi continues to play well in goal for the Chants and picked up another shutout last week with CCU's 1-0 win over Campbell. It was his second shutout of the season and he enters Wednesday's match up with 18 saves.

The Rams enter the game coming off a 2-0 win over St. Bonaventure in their last outing. The win broke a four-game losing streak for VCU. Biska Biyommo is the Rams leader on offense with one goal and two assists.

VCU was picked to win the Atlantic 10 championship this season, picking up 159 points in the preseason poll. Their win over St. Bonaventure was a conference win which puts them at 1-0 in the A-10.
