CCU Senior Zack Taylor Four Under at the Tucker Intercollegiate

Coastal Carolina men’s golf will wrap up the three-round tournament on Saturday
Albuquerque, N.M. – Coastal Carolina senior golfer Zack Taylor recorded rounds of 71, -1 under par, and 69, -3 under par, on Friday to place himself in a tie for sixth-place overall after two rounds of play at the highly-touted William H. Tucker Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M.
Taylor's 36-hole score of 140, -4 under par, has him in a five-way tie for sixth-place overall and just seven strokes behind the tournament leader in Peter Kuest of BYU (133, -11). Taylor's day included one eagle, eight birdies and 21 pars over his 36 holes of play.
As a team, the Chanticleers posted rounds of 300 and 295 to end the day in 11th-place overall with a 36-hole combined score of 595, +19.
No. 4 Arizona leads the tournament field with a score of 562, -14 under par, while host New Mexico (563, -13) and Brigham Young (567, -9) are in second and third on the team leaderboard.
"We had a rough day today. The 36-hole day at the Tucker is our hardest day of the year. With everything that goes with it, it's just hard and we did not handle the external stuff today," commented head coach Jim Garren. "Zack had a really good day and States had a solid second round. I felt like for the 36-hole day at the Tucker Intercollegiate, Gavin held it together fairly well.
Fellow senior States Fort bounced back from a first-round 77, +5, to card a 72, even par, in round two to finish in a tie for 47th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 149, +5.
Freshman Gavin Noble posted rounds of 74, +2, and 76, +4, in his intercollegiate debut to wrap up day one in a tie for 53rd overall with a two-round score of 150, +6, while fellow first-year Chant Seth Taylor carded scores of 78, +6, and 80, +8, for a two-round combined score of 158, +14, to put him in 87th-place.
Rounding out the lineup for CCU on Friday was sophomore Connor Newton with rounds of 82, +10, and 78, +6. His combined 36-hole score of 160, +16, has him in a tie for 89th overall heading into tomorrow's final round.
Playing as an individual, freshman Garrett Cooper turned in a first round of 82, +10, his very first round of competition as a Chant before dropping five shots off his second-round 77, +5, to finish Friday in 88th-place with a score of 159, +15.
The Chants will tee off the third and final round of play tomorrow at 7:45 p.m. local time or 10:45 p.m. ET.
