Coastal Carolina men’s golf will return to action on Oct. 11-13
Albuquerque, N.M. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team wrapped up the 54-hole William H. Tucker Intercollegiate with a final team round 296, +8, on Saturday to finish in a tie for 10th-place overall with a final team score of 891, +27. Senior Zack Taylor led the Chants with a 54-hole score of 211, -5 under par, to place in a tie for sixth overall on the individual leaderboard.
Host New Mexico and BYU finished in a tie for first-place overall after the 54-hole tournament with identical scores of 854, -10 under par. New Mexico went on to win the playoff to earn the tournament win.
"We had a frustrating last couple of holes but today was a good day overall," commented head coach Jim Garren. "Stroke differential means so much in our game, honestly more than position on the leaderboard. We made up a ton of shots today. I hate we couldn't close off a great round but there was effort today. What a great week by Zack. A really solid performance out there against this field."
Zack Taylor carded rounds of 71, 69 and 71 to post the top-10 finish. His weekend included one eagle, 11 birdies and 34 pars over his 54-holes.
Fellow upperclassman States Fort closed out his tournament with a final round of 76, +4, on Saturday. Added with his first two rounds of 77 and 72 on Friday, Fort finished in a tie for 45th with a 54-hole score of 225, +9, which included nine birdies and 27 pars over his two days of play.
Freshmen Gavin Noble and Seth Taylor finished in a tie for 69th and 75th, respectively, as Noble turned in scores of 74, 76 and 80 for a three-round score of 230, +14, in his Chanticleer debut, while Seth Taylor shot rounds of 78, 80 and 74 for his tournament score of 232, +16.
Sophomore Connor Newton continued his improvement over his three rounds of play, shooting rounds of 82, 78 and 75 over the weekend to place in a tie for 79th with a tournament score of 235, +19.
Playing as an individual, freshman Garrett Cooper recorded rounds of 82, 77 and 80 to finish in 89th-place overall with a 54-hole score of 239, +23.
