CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team will host USC Upstate Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. It is the first of a two-game homestand.
CCU enters the game with a 4-3-1 record and is coming off a hard-fought 1-0 loss at eighth-ranked Kentucky this past Saturday night.
While these two schools are only four hours from each other, the in-state programs have only played five times despite the first game of the series dating back to 1981.
It has been a close series as evidenced by the 2-2-1 record of the five games. This will be the fifth time the game has been played in Conway where CCU holds a slim 2-1-1 edge. The two teams met last season at the CCU Soccer Stadium with the Chanticleers pulling out the 5-1 victory.
The only game played in Spartanburg came back in 1996 when USC Upstate was still known as USC Spartanburg. It was a game the Spartans won 6-0 which is the largest victory in the series.
Sam Snaith continues to lead the Chants in scoring with four goals and eight points. He is tied for fourth in the conference in both points and goals scored. His 1.14 goals per game average is also tied for fourth.
Tyrone Mondi and Claudio are next in line with five points. Both players have two goals and one assist apiece while
DZ Harmon continues to lead the team with three assists which is also tied for first in the Sun Belt.
The Spartans come into Tuesday's affair with a record of 1-6. They have had trouble scoring this season and will enter the game with only five goals and five assists in the team's seven outings.
Pascal Corvino has two of those goals and is the team leader with four points. Joel Bunting, Roberto Umana and Moss Lewis have scored the other three goals.
