Women’s Tennis to Open Spring Season on the Road at Charlotte

Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team will begin play this Friday
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team will begin its 2020 season on Friday with a 1 p.m. match in the Queen City at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex on the campus of UNC Charlotte.
Head coach Catherine Hewitt is entering her ninth year of leading the Chants. Hewitt added USPTA certified teaching professional Kurt Caster to her staff this season. He is a USTA 5.0 rated player. Caster competed at Bloomsburg University all four years in the #4, #5, and #6 single spots and during his senior campaign he was named team captain.
Coastal is returning six student-athletes from last season's squad, including seniors Maria Khomchenko, Alexa Tiefel, and Alicja Zduniak, juniors Somer Dalla-Bona and Jessie Mount, and graduate student Iryna Vardanian. The Chants have added two talented players from Italy in freshmen Valentina Urelli and Flaminia Scará.
The 49ers enter the contest with a 3-2 record having loss to nationally-ranked NC State and Clemson. Charlotte is looking to duplicate its best season in 30 years from last spring when they finished 19-7 overall and 3-2 in Conference USA.
