Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team dropped its season opener

Charlotte, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team fell 5-2 to the Charlotte 49ers in its season-opening match on the road in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday afternoon.

Coastal (0-1) won the doubles point but just one of the six singles matches. CCU captured its singles point on court three while Charlotte (4-2) won on courts one, two, four, five, and six.

The Chanticleers' (0-1) Valentina Urelli and Maria Khomchenko evened the doubles match up defeating Pierina Immarato and Rocio Safont 6-3 before CCU's duo of Somer Dalla-Bona and Jessie Mount upended Immie Cowper and Jenna Dean 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for a 1-0 lead.

Charlotte took control of the match with Immarato defeating Mount and Safont dropping Dalla-Bona in straight sets.

The Chants, Iryna Vardanian earned the final Coastal point defeating Ruxi Schech 6-4, 6-2.

The 49ers closed out the match with three wins on courts four, two, and six with Dean clinching the match point with a 7-6, 7-6 win over Coastal's Flaminia Scará on court two.

CCU will return to action as the Chants will travel to Buies Creek, N.C. on Feb. 12 to compete against former Big South foe Campbell. The first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
