Coastal Carolina women’s tennis will host Charleston Southern in the home opener on Saturday at the Stevens Tennis Complex

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team picked up wins at the No. 2, 3, and 4 singles spots, but couldn't overcome the Campbell Fighting Camels in a 4-3 loss on Wednesday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C.

The home-standing Camels (5-1) earned wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, respectively, to pick up the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead.

After CU extended its lead to 2-0 with a straight-set win at the No. 5 flight, the Chanticleers got on the scoreboard with a win at No. 3, as Flaminia Scara defeated Lou Regen 6-1, 1-6, and 6-1.

CCU's Iryna Vardanian tied the match score up at 2-2 with her win at the No. 2 singles spot, as she took the first set 6-2, fell 0-6 in the second set, and bounced back to take the third set 6-4 over Campbell's Lea Cutura.

The Camels retook the match lead at 3-2 with a close 5-7, 6-4, and 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot, only to see the Chants' Valentina Urelli hold off Lucile Pons of Campbell 6-2, 6-7, and 7-5 at No. 4 to tie the match up at 3-3.

CU escaped with the 4-3 match win as Essence Martins claimed the victory at No. 6 by way of 5-7, 6-3, and 6-4.

Coastal (0-2) will host Charleston Southern on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Stevens Tennis Complex. First serve is set for Noon E.T.
