Men's Soccer Well Represented on All-Sun Belt List - Coastal Carolina University Athletics

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference office released the 2020 Men's Soccer All-Sun Belt team as voted on by the conference's head coaches with four Chanticleers and head coach Shaun Docking picking up Sun Belt honors.

Named to the All-Sun Belt team were Marcello Jones, Mael Couteau, and Tor Saunders. Specialist award winners were Saunders as the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, Jason Kemble as the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, and head coach Docking picking up the 2020 Sun Belt Coach of the Year.

Saunders transferred to CCU from Akron and played a big role in leading the Chants to the regular-season title. While playing every minute in goal this season, he registered three shutouts while picking up 23 saves and sporting a .821 save percentage. He received multiple weekly honors during the regular season, picking up Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors twice while also being named to both the TopDrawerSoccer.com and College Soccer News National Teams of the Week.

Another transfer, Jones came to CCU via Cincinnati. The Cornwall, England native became one of the top midfielder's in the league and was a force on both sides of the field for the Chants. He played and started all six matches and not only led the Chants but the Sun Belt as well in assists with four. Jones also picked up several weekly honors including being tabbed the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week as well as earning a spot on both the College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com National Teams of the Week.

A true freshman, Couteau played and started five games along the defensive backline for CCU. He played every minute of those five matches on his way to picking up all-conference honors. He even got into the scoring column with a goal and assist. His goal in the season-opener against Georgia State was the match-winner as the only goal scored in the match while his assist against Central Arkansas led to the match-winner in the 1-0 overtime victory.

Conway native Jason Kemble decided to stay close to home to continue his soccer career and it paid dividends as he was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. He played and started all six matches this season and played a total of 517 minutes as a defender. His presence along the CCU defense helped the Chants to three shutouts and allow only five goals and 58 shots for the season.

Being named the coach of the year has become a second way of life for Docking. This year's honor marks the eighth time in his career he has picked up the honor and the seventh time as head coach of the Chants. This year's Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year honor is his second after also receiving the honor following the 2017 season.

What made this year so special for the CCU head coach, was his ability to take a team comprised of 25 new players and playing only six regular-season matches into a championship-winning team.

This season marked the third time that Docking has led CCU to a Sun Belt regular-season title and looks to build on his impressive Sun Belt Conference Championships, with the team going for their fourth in five seasons this weekend at the 2020 Sun Belt Men's Soccer Championship.
