Coastal Carolina women’s tennis earns first win of the season

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team competed against Charleston Southern in a dual match on Saturday at the Stevens Tennis Complex. The Chanticleers earned their first win of the season with a 7-0 shutout of the Buccaneers.

The Chanticleers (1-2) won the doubles point with the duo of Flaminia Scara and Alexa Tiefel wrapping up their match against CSU's (3-4) Michelle Schmitz and Femke van Rensburg 6-3, followed by Jessie Mount and Somer Dalla-Bona overcoming Zoe Cauthen and Tiffany Pyritz 6-4 at the No. 2 doubles position.

The Chants maintained their control over the match with two quick wins on courts No. 2 and No. 3 followed by Valentina Urelli battling and winning a three-set match 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 to put the home team in front 4-0. Maria Khomchenko soon after defeated Tyler Kirk 6-0 and 6-2, while Mount then followed with a victory over Hilda Lundstedt on court No. 6 7-5, 6-2.

CCU's Iryna Vardanian overcame Tiffany Pyritz, but not without a fight, initially splitting the first two sets at 6-3 and 5-7, before taking the third and decisive set 10-6.
