Coastal Carolina men’s golf placed eighth overall at the spring-opening event

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Chanticleers posted a third-round 285, +5, over the final round of the Florida Gators Invitational on Sunday to finish in eighth-place overall with a 54-hole team score of 861, +21, at the three-day event.

Coastal had a pair of golfers in Zack Taylor and Tyler Gray finish in the top 10 overall on the individual leaderboard to highlight the weekend.

"It was a really good week from Zack and Tyler. Those guys played solid all week," stated head coach Jim Garren. "There's a lot of positives to take away from this week. We beat some good teams and were only a handful of shots from third. We got to continue to improve and get better, but this week showed us some good stuff."

Senior Zack Taylor posted a round of 70, even par, on Sunday, and combined with his first two rounds of 69 and 68, finished in a tie for fourth-place overall with a tournament score of 207, -3 under par. He recorded a team-high 12 birdies over his three rounds of play, which was tied for the third-most in the tournament field, and posted the second-best par-3 scoring average of 2.87 (-2) among all the golfers at the event.

Gray carded his second-straight round of 71, +1, on the final day of play to finish ninth overall with his 54-hole score of 210, even par. He posted rounds of 68, 71, and 71, to record the best individual finish and 54-hole tournament score of his young CCU career. The sophomore was consistent all weekend, tallying five birdies, five bogeys, and a tournament-high 44 pars.

Freshman Seth Taylor recorded his best round of the weekend on Sunday, shooting a 70, even par, to finish in a tie for 48th-place overall with his three-round combined score of 220, +10. The first-year Chant bounced back from rounds of 76 and 74 to card three birdies on the back nine of his final round of play to finish at even-par over his final 18 holes.

Both Gavin Noble and States Fort shot identical rounds of 74, +4, on Sunday to finish in a tie for 64th-place overall with scores of 225, +15. Noble carded rounds of 75, 76, and 74, which included five birdies, while Fort turned in scores of 76, 75, and 74, including three birdies overall.

Host and No. 31 nationally-ranked Florida won the event with a team score of 828, -12, finishing ahead of No. 19 Vanderbilt (846, +6), No. 36 South Florida (852, +12), Penn State (852, +12), and No. 29 Liberty (855, +15).

Coastal will return to competition on Feb. 23-25, as the Chanticleers will head to Puerto Rico to play in the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate hosted by UNCG at the Sugarcane Course at TPC Dorado Beach in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
