Coastal Carolina women’s tennis is now 2-2 on the season

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team protected its home court on Saturday afternoon, as the Chanticleers swept the UNC Greensboro Spartans 7-0 at the Lynn Stevens Tennis Complex.

The Chants improved to 2-2 on the season with their second-straight victory, while the Spartans fell to 1-6 overall on the year with the loss.

Coastal opened up the match with a win at both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots to take the doubles point and an early 1-0 match lead.

The tandem of Jessie Mount and Somer Dalla-Bona took a 6-2 win at the No. 1 doubles position, and after the Spartans won on court No. 2, the Chants' duo of Valentina Urelli and Alicja Zduniak won 6-2 at the No. 3 spot to give the home team the early 1-0 lead.

In singles play, the Chants dominated on courts No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 to take a 4-0 match lead.

CCU's Mount nearly blanked Ariana Chan at No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-1, while Urelli swept UNCG's Hanna Giddings by a score of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.

Maria Khomchenko matched Mount with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 over her opponent to give the Chants the win and 4-0 lead.

At the No. 3 singles spot, Coastal's Flaminia Scara defeated Brianna Gomez in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, while fellow Chant Dalla-Bona held on to beat Sophia Adams at the No. 2 position 7-5, 6-3.

Iryna Vardanian needed three sets at No. 1 but came back from a first-set loss to defeat Erika Barquero 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 to complete the sweep.

Coastal (2-2) will look to continue its winning streak tomorrow at South Carolina. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
