Coastal Carolina beach volleyball will host Catawba on Friday and UNCW on Saturday
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's beach volleyball team will open up the 2020 season this weekend with home matches versus Catawba and UNC Wilmington at the CCU Beach Volleyball Complex on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 22.
The Sandy Chants will host the Catawba Indians on Friday at Noon and 2 p.m. ET before taking on UNCW on Saturday for two matches at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET.
Heading into the program's fifth season, head coach Steve Loeswick is looking to build on the Chants' 21-11 overall record last season, which saw Coastal win the ASUN North Division Championship title.
Coastal Carolina returns five letterwinners this season headlined by preseason ASUN all-conference selection in Sydney Alvis and last year's leader in wins in Kalin Eske.
Last season, Alvis went 19-3 overall at the No. 1 flight with her partner Leah Hardeman and will look to again lead the Chants at the top of the lineup this season.
Like Avlis, Eske, who was tied for the team-lead in wins with 25 victories last season with her partner Anett Nemeth, will also pair up with a new teammate this season.
Also returning this year for CCU are Kyla Manning, Tanner Gauthier, and Lucy Campbell who all have played in double-digit matches over the last two years.
In addition to the returners, the Chants have several newcomers looking to break into the lineup this year in graduate transfer Viktoria Fink, transfer Martine Kragholm, and freshmen Madison Allred, Irena Drobnjak, Ashton Dunnigan, Carli Ginther, Kaitlyn Holbrook, Abby Sharlun, and Sarlota Svobodova.
