Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team wins second consecutive match

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team won its second consecutive match as the Chanticleers picked up a 6-1 win over the visiting St. John's Red Storm on Sunday afternoon in Conway, S.C. With the win, CCU improved to 4-3 on the season while the Red Storm fell to 6-6 on the year.

Coastal won the doubles point as the teams on courts No. 1 and No. 3 clinched the point. The Australian duo of Jessie Mount and Somer Dalla-Bona finished first over Jessica Livianu and Gabriela Tenorio with a 6-1 win. At the No. 3 doubles position, Flaminia Scara and Alexa Tiefel earned a 6-3 win over Kajsa Stergrell and Milka Genkova as CCU clinched the point for the 1-0 lead.

In singles play, the Chants tallied victories on courts No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 while SJU picked up its lone point at the No. 1 position.

After seeing the Red Storm even the match up at 1-1, Coastal jumped back in front on court No. 5 as freshman Valentina Urelli won 6-0, 6-4 over Camila Ordonez. Dalla-Bona followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Oceane Garibal on court No. 2 to put CCU in front 3-1.

Scara clinched the match win with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Tenorio at the No. 3 position while Maria Khomchenko recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over Willa Bay Breunich at No. 6. Mount picked up her second victory of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win at court No. 4 to finish the scoring at 6-1 for the Chants.

Coastal Carolina returns to action on Wednesday, March 4, as the Chants will host in-state foe College of Charleston at the Lynn Stevens Tennis Complex in Conway. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
