Coastal Carolina beach volleyball will play host seven matches this weekend
CONWAY, S.C. – Following two weeks on the road, the Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team returns home this weekend to host the Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 13-14 at the CCU Beach Volleyball Complex. Admission to all matches is free.
This weekend's tournament field includes No. 15 nationally-ranked Texas Christian University (TCU), Carson-Newman, and the College of Charleston.
The Sandy Chants, who are receiving votes in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Poll for the second-straight week, are 10-2 overall this season and have won eight of their last 10 matches.
CCU went 3-1 last weekend at the CofC Beach Bash in Charleston, S.C., with the lone loss coming to No. 18 Georgia State.
Highlighting the weekend was the program's first-ever wins over both the College of Charleston and Mercer.
Coastal's success starts at the top, as the No. 1 flight of Sydney Alvis and Viktoria Fink is 9-3 on the season and is coming off back-to-back wins over Saint Leo and Mercer last Sunday, March 8.
The freshmen tandem of Irena Drobnjak and Sarlota Svobodova is 10-1 overall on the season at the No. 2 spot and has shown their resiliency by rebounding to win three-straight matches after falling to No. 18 Georgia State on March 7.
Matching Drobnjak and Svobodova at the No. 3 spot with a 10-1 record is the team of Lucy Campbell and Martine Kragholm. Campbell and Kragholm are 10-2 overall on the season but have found their spot on court number three having won three-straight bouts entering play this weekend.
CCU's Kyla Manning and Carli Ginther are a perfect 8-0 at the No. 4 position and 8-1 as a team on the season, while the pair of Madison Allred and Kaitlyn Holbrook have moved to 5-3 on the season at No. 5 following their win over Mercer last Sunday.
The Chanticleers will open up play with nationally-ranked TCU (11-4) on Friday at 9 a.m. ET and then turnaround to face off with Carson-Newman (6-1) at 11 a.m. ET.
The final two matches on Friday will pit CofC versus TCU at 1 p.m. ET and CofC against Carson-Newman at 3 p.m. ET.
On Saturday, the Sandy Chants will take on CofC (3-6) at 9 a.m. ET. That match will be followed by a rematch of Carson-Newman versus CofC at 11 a.m. ET and then the Chants hosting Carson-Newman again at 1 p.m. ET.
Coastal Carolina has never faced TCU. The Chants are 2-0 versus Carson-Newman all-time and are coming off their first-ever win over the CofC Cougars (1-4) last weekend at the CofC Beach Bash.
