Chanticleers Fall to No. 16 Pioneers 13-6 in Denver

Coastal Carolina lacrosse returns home to host Niagara on Sunday

Denver, Colo. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team fell 13-6 to the nationally-ranked No. 16 Denver Pioneers on Wednesday in Denver, Colo. With the loss, the Chanticleers dropped to 2-3 on the year while the Pioneers improved to 7-1 on the season.
 
Senior attacker Lyla Robinson led the Chants offensive scoring four points on two goals and two assists while Megan Kilpatrick, Abbey Buchanan, Kiley Davis, and Abi George each scored one goal. Coastal's leading scorer Samantha Courtemanche recorded two points on two assists.
 
Denver's leading scorer Quintin Hoch-Bullen picked up eight points with five goals and three assists to push her point total to 44 points on the season. Caroline Wiseman and Bea Behrins each scored two goals and dished out one assist for three points while Eliza Radochonski added two points on one goal and one assist.
 
Robinson found the back of the net to put Coastal in front 1-0 just 51 seconds into the match off the feed from Courtemanche.
 
The Pioneers evened the contest at 1-1 as Hoch-Bullen scored her first goal with 19:21 remaining in the first half. DU then jumped in front 2-1 when Julia Gilbert beat the Chanticleer defense, who was a down a woman, off the first assist of the day for Hoch-Bullen.
 
The Chanticleers scored two goals to the one for Denver to even the match up 3-3 with 8:30 remaining until the halftime break.
 
The Pioneers outscored CCU 3-1 over the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 6-4 lead at the intermission. DU opened the second half with a six-goal run to take a 12-4 advantage with 17:24 remaining in the contest.
 
With 6:05 remaining in the match, freshman Abi George scored her first career goal off the feed from Lauren Cremen to pull the Chants to within 12-5. Robinson recorded the final goal for Coastal with 3:25 remaining in regulation to cut the Pioneers lead in half at 12-6.
 
The Chanticleers senior goalkeeper Regan McComb made 17 saves while being bombarded by 40 shots in the contest.
 
Coastal Carolina will return to the field on Sunday, March 15, as the Chants will host the Niagara Purple Eagles at Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C. The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET
