CHARLESTON, S.C. – Coastal Carolina beach volleyball had its five-match winning streak snapped with a 5-0 loss to No. 18 Georgia State in the first match of the day, but bounced back to record its first-ever win over the College of Charleston with a 3-2 victory in match two to split its two matches on Saturday at the CofC Beach Bash in Charleston, S.C.
With the Saturday split, Coastal is now 8-2 on the season.
Match 1: #18 Georgia State 5, Coastal Carolina 0
Coastal Carolina had its five-match winning streak snapped with a 5-0 loss to No. 18 Georgia State on Saturday afternoon.
The Chants pushed the Panthers in all five matches, yet couldn't win a set in the defeat.
At No. 5, the duo of
Kyla Manning and
Carli Ginther pushed Cara Guthrie and Elise Saga to the very end before falling 21-16, 25-23, while at No. 2
Irena Drobnjak and
Sarlota Svobodova suffered their first loss of the season with a 21-17, 23-21 defeat to Maddy Delmonte and Eden Hawes.

Sydney Alvis and
Viktoria Fink fell 21-17, 21-17 at No. 1,
Lucy Campbell and
Martine Kragholm lost 21-17, 21-15 at No. 3, and the team of
Kalin Eske and
Abby Sharlun dropped the match at No. 4 by a score of 21-16, 21-12.
The shutout loss is the first of the season for the Chants.
Match 2: Coastal Carolina 3, College of Charleston 2
The Chants bounced back after the 5-0 loss to nationally-ranked Georgia State to pick up the program's first-ever win over the Cougars with a 3-2 victory.
CofC opened the contest with a 21-15, 12-21, 15-9 win at No. 5 to take a 1-0 match lead only to see the Chanticleers answer back with a three-set win of their own at 18-21, 21-15, 15-9 at the No. 4 spot by Manning and Ginther to tie the match score up at 1-1.
A straight-set win by the Cougars at the top flight put the host team in front 2-1 with two matches to play.
The Chants would score straight-set wins in both of those matches, as Drobnjak and Svobodova defeated Amani Dunston and Clarie Campbell 21-19, 21-15 at the No. 2 spot while Campbell and Kragholm held on to edge the team of Ella Ridinger and Sky Benjamin 23-21, 21-19 at the No. 3 position to finish of the 3-2 match win.
With the win, the Chants are now 1-4 all-time versus the Cougars.
Coastal (8-2) will return to the courts tomorrow to take on Saint Leo at 8:30 a.m. and Mercer at 2:30 p.m. ET.
