Men’s Golf to Host 19th Annual General Hackler Championship

Coastal Carolina men’s golf will host 14 other teams at the two-day event
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf program will host the 19th annual General Hackler Championship on March 9-10 at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
This year's event, which has been played every year since 2002, will play par-72, 7,233-yards and will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
The tournament field this year includes 15 teams with 10 participating teams ranked nationally in the top 60 including No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 14 Louisville, No. 25 East Tennessee State, No. 26 North Carolina, No. 35 Liberty, No. 39 South Carolina, No. 46 North Florida, No. 51 NC State, No. 59 UNCG, and No. 60 Kent State. Other teams include East Carolina, Kansas State, Penn State, Wisconsin, and host CCU.
The field also includes multiple past champions in Coastal Carolina (2005), ETSU (2006 and 2010), Wake Forest (2008, 2009, and 2017), North Florida (2012, 2015, and 2019), Kent State (2013), and South Carolina (2016).
Head coach Jim Garren will send out the lineup of Zack Taylor, Gavin Noble, States Fort, Tyler Gray, and Connor Newton, while Brady Hinkle and Seth Taylor will compete as individuals in the home event.
Senior Zack Taylor leads the team with a 71.06 stroke average on the season having played a total of 16 rounds on the year. He has recorded 11 rounds of par or better on the year, including five rounds in the 60s, and posted four top-20 finishes. The second-year Chant is coming off a round of 75, +3, at the rain-shortened TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate two weeks ago.
Noble, who is the lone freshman in the lineup this week, has posted back-to-back rounds of 74, +2, over his last two rounds of play. He has turned in a stroke average of 74.15 over five events in his first year as a Chant.
Fort, the most experienced golfer on the team, is playing in his fourth General Hackler Championship this week, where he has carded rounds of 75, 73, 75, 80, 71, 77, 72, and 78 over his previous three times at the event. The fourth-year Chant is coming off a round of 69, -3 under par, in the lone round at the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate on Feb. 23 and has carded seven rounds of par or better over six tournaments this year.
Playing in his fourth-straight tournament, breaking into the lineup in the spring opener, Gray has posted a 74.14 stroke average on the year. After posting a career-low 54-hole tournament score of 210, even par, at the Florida Gators Invitational on Feb. 15-16, the sophomore carded a round of 77, +5, at the TPC Dorado Beach Intercollegiate in Puerto Rico on Feb. 23.
Returning to the lineup for the first time since October, Newton is playing in his second Hackler Championship after posting rounds of 71, 75, and 76 for a 54-hole tournament score of 222, +6, in last year's tournament. Over three tournaments in the fall, the sophomore registered a stroke average of 75.67, which included a low-round 70 in the 2019 fall opener in Wisconsin in September.
Hinkle, who shot rounds of 71, 72, and 82 for a 54-hole score of 225, +9, at the 2019 Hackler Championship is coming off a round of 71, -1 under par, last time out at the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate.
Seth Taylor will be competing in his first Hackler Championship this week, as the freshman is third on the team with a stroke average of 73.13 over six events this season.
Tee-times will begin at 7:40 a.m. ET on Monday morning.
