No. 8 Louisiana Wins Sunday To Take Series, 2-1

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped to 13-7 overall and 1-2 in Sun Belt Conference play with a 10-2 loss in five innings to the No. 8 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday afternoon at St. John Stadium.

The Chanticleers started junior Kaitlin Beasley-Polko  got the start  for the third-straight day against the talented Cajun bats, and the team from Lafayette, La., took full advantage of the familiarity they gained over the past two days against the Leonardtown, Md., native. Louisiana sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning as they knocked in six runs, added four hits, forced two walks, a hit-by-pitch.

Louisiana picked up four more runs, to extend the lead to 10-0, in the top of the third on a two-run homer by Sarah Hudek, an RBI triple by Alissa Dalton, and an RBI single by Kaitlyn Alderink,

Ragin' Cajun starter Megan Kleist worked three innings of hitless softball before CCU was able to break through with a line drive single from junior Makiya Thomas to lead off the bottom of the fourth. After Kleist got junior Stavi Augur to strike out, Coastal would score on back-to-back at-bats by junior Courtney Dean and sophomore Sydney Guess

The aforementioned Thomas would score one of the two Chanticleer runs in the inning on a single by Dean, followed up Guess' a fielders' choice, RBI, groundout to the first baseman Carrie Boswell, which scored Abbey Montoya on the play.

Kleist held the Chanticleers bats in check throughout the five-inning contest, improving to 6-5 on the season to go along with her seventh complete game on the year. The former Pac 12 Pitcher of the Year allowed just three hits on one earned run.

Beasley-Polko drops to 4-5 on the season as she worked two-thirds of an inning and allowed six earned runs.

For Louisiana, Alderink, Sarah Hudek, and Kendall Talley each had two hits apiece to lead their team on the day. Hudek hit her fifth home run of the season as well as having game-high four RBI.

The Chanticleers return to action Tuesday, Mar. 10 as they host No. 15 South Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
