Men's Soccer Set for Final Regular Season Road Contest, Tuesday

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team returns to the road for the final time this season as they are set to face No. 18 nationally-ranked FIU, Tuesday night in Miami. The Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at the FIU Soccer Stadium.

The Chanticleers and Panthers will face off for the first time in program history on Tuesday, but the two teams are no stranger to one another, as FIU's head coach Kyle Russell served as the Chanticleers associate head coach from 2015 until 2019.

CCU enters Tuesday matchup 3-3-4 overall and unbeaten at 2-0-4 in Conference USA play while No. 18 FIU holds an 8-1-2 overall record and is also unbeaten in C-USA play with a 3-0-1 record.

Coastal is fresh off its second C-USA win, 1-0 over Charlotte last Tuesday (Oct. 16). The two teams played an even first 45 minutes but, it would be a handball call on the 49ers in the 62nd minute that would be the difference.

Following the call, the Chants were awarded a penalty kick which freshman Michael Fowler converted for the lone goal of the contest. CLT looked to find the equalizer but the CCU backline was able to hold them off.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
  • The Panthers finished the 2020-2021 season with an overall record of 4-4-1 and 3-3-1 in C-USA play and were picked fifth in the 2021 preseason poll. FIU has tallied five shutouts so far this season and has also recorded five wins this season by at least two goals.
  • FIU ranks top in the nation in multiple statistical categories, including No. 4 nationally in shots-per-game (17.70) and No. 7 in the country in shutout percentage (.600). The Blue & Gold also ranks No. 17 nationally in win percentage (.800) and No. 22 in scoring offense (2.30 goals-per-game).
  • The Panthers lead all C-USA teams in shot attempts (177), while rankings second in points-per-game (6.70) and goals-per-game. FIU also ranks second in goals scored (23) and goals-against-average (.60).
