CARY, N.C. – Coastal Carolina's men's tennis team posted three wins in doubles action, while super senior graduate student Bastien Huon earned a win in the singles draw on day two of the ITA Carolina Regional Championships hosted by Duke University in Cary, N.C.
The Chants picked up wins from Huon, in both the singles and doubles draw, while Diego Giraldo, Federico Garnier, Niccolo Rossi earned wins in the main doubles draw on Saturday.
Huon was able to pull off the upset in the Main Singles draw, as he defeated the No. 4 seed Filippo Moroni of Wake Forest in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 to move on to the round of 16 on Sunday.
In doubles play, the pairings draw from Coastal Carolina excelled in round one as two of three tandems secured wins to move onto the next round.
Huon and his partner Rossi downed the Furman duo of Elijah Poritzky and Drew Singerman in straight sets by a similar score of 6-4 to advance to the second round, while the super senior pairing of Giraldo and Garnier defeated the Wofford pair of Callum Rendle and Bryce Keim 6-1, 6-0 in round one.
In round two of the Main Doubles draw, the team of Giraldo and Garnier would defeat Chris Lil and Peter Murphy of North Carolina 6-4, 6-1 to move on to the round of 16.
However, Huon and Rossi would fall in their second-round match to 6-4, 6-3 to the No. 3-seeded team of Robin Catry and Damien Salvestre of NC State.
The Chants will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 24, as both singles and doubles action will commence on day three of the ITA Carolina Regionals.
