Men's Soccer Earns Third Shutout of the Season

CONWAY, S.C. – On the final night of Conference USA play for the Coastal Carolina men's soccer team, the Chanticleers handed the visiting UAB Blazers a 1-0 loss on Tuesday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

With the victory, Coastal is now 4-4-4 overall and finishes its first year in C-USA with an overall record of 3-1-4. UAB falls to 2-11-0 overall and 0-6-0 in conference plays.

"I thought the guys found a way to win tonight against a good UAB team," head coach Shaun Docking said. "It's a valuable three points. That was an important result for a lot of reasons."

The Chanticleers logged the first shot of the match as Nicholas Itopoulous' shot went wide in the 13th minute before the Blazers logged the first shot on goal and, freshman goalkeeper Leon Schmidt recorded his first save of the night in the 15th minute.

Following a scoreless first half, UAB took the first two attempts of the second half in the 47th and 54th minute, respectively. Luc Mikula's first career goal, a game-winner, in the 61st minute on a cross from fellow Chant Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual proved to be the difference for the Chanticleers.

Coastal ended the night with a 10-7 shooting advantage and a 6-1 edge in shots on frame. Troy Amegashie tallied a team-leading two shots, both on goal. UAB found the advantage in corner kicks (3-2) as well as saves (5-2).

CCU remains at home for the final two matches of the regular season, as the Chants welcome Northern Kentucky (Oct. 30) and College of Charleston to Conway (Nov.3). The kickoff for both matches is set for 7 p.m. ET from the CCU Soccer Stadium.
