Coastal Volleyball Set for Two East Division Matches on the Road

Coastal Carolina looks to solidify first place in the East Division this weekend

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's volleyball team (15-5, 9-1 SBC) will look remain on the road and wrap up its four-game road swing versus Troy (13-9, 6-5 SBC) and South Alabama (15-6, 10-1 SBC) this weekend in Alabama.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE
at Troy, Friday, Oct. 29 – 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+)
at South Alabama, Oct. 31 – 1 p.m. ET (ESPN+)
 
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS TROY & SOUTH ALABAMA
The Chanticleers are 10-6 overall versus Troy and 12-1 all-time versus South Alabama.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Chanticleers suffered their first SBC regular-season loss since 2019 on Friday, Oct. 22 at Texas State (3-0) but bounced back to trounce UTA (3-0) in a straight-set sweep on Saturday, Oct. 23.

SUN BELT STREAK
The Chants' had their Sun Belt Conference winning streak snapped at 28-straight wins with the 3-0 loss at Texas State (Oct. 22) last Friday night in San Marcos, Texas.
 
CCU had won every SBC regular-season match dating all the way back to the 2019 season, when the Chants last lost on Nov. 2, 2019, at Troy.
 
SBC EAST DIVISION ON THE LINE
CCU's road contests at Troy (Oct. 29) and South Alabama (Oct. 31) this weekend will be pivotal matchups for the Sun Belt East Division, as South Alabama and Coastal are both sitting atop of the East Division standings.
 
South Alabama enters the week at 10-1 in Sun Belt play, while Coastal Carolina is just a half-a-game back at 9-1 in league action.
 
LAYING IT ON THE LINE
The Chants will be putting not one, but two winning streaks on the line this weekend at Troy (Oct. 29) and South Alabama (Oct. 31).
 
Coastal has won five straight matches over the Troy Trojans, including a 3-0 sweep of the Trojans in Conway, S.C. on Oct. 8.
 
However, all five of those wins during the current streak came at the HTC Center in Conway, S.C., as the Chants dropped each of their last two matches at Troy, falling 2-3 in both 2018 and 2019.
 
On Sunday, Oct. 31, the Chants will put their 12-match winning streak over the Jaguars on the line at South Alabama.
 
CCU lost its first-ever meeting with USA, 3-2, back in 2000, but has won each of the last 12 matchups since Coastal joined the Sun Belt in 2016-17.
 
ANI REACHES 1000
Super senior Ani Bozdeva picked up her 1,000th-career kill in her collegiate career in the 3-0 sweep of UTA (Oct. 23) last weekend.
 
With her 291 kills in 2017 at Eastern Arizona College and her 710 kills at CCU, Bozdeva enters the weekend with 1,001 career kills.
 
200-W
Coastal Carolina head coach Jozsef Forman picked up his 200th career win as the leader of the Chanticleer volleyball program with CCU's 3-0 sweep at UTA on Saturday, Oct. 24.
 
In his 10th season at CCU, Forman is 200-76 overall at CCU and has posted a 258-115 overall record in 13 seasons as a head coach.
 
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN TWICE
Coastal dropped back-to-back matches for the first time in two years at nationally-ranked Florida on Sept. 18-19. CCU last lost two consecutive matches before the trip to Gainesville, Fla., in 2019, losing back-to-back contests versus Texas State (Oct. 25) and UTA (Oct. 27).
 
NEW FACE IN ALYSSA ESKE
Junior defensive specialist Alyssa Eske joined the indoor volleyball team just three weeks ago, as she is a member of the beach volleyball team at CCU.
 
Eske is a transfer from Illinois, where she played 16 matches in 2020-21 as a sophomore and in seven matches as a freshman in 2019.
 
The Wisconsin native originally joined the Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team to play alongside her sister Katlin Eske.
 
QUICK WORK
Coastal has made quick work of most of its opponents this season, as a little over half of their matches this season (11-of-20) have lasted just three sets.

PETRENKO = ACE
Junior setter Brigitta Petrenko has been on point behind the service line again this season, as she leads the conference in both service aces (36) and services aces per set (0.50), which both rank in the top-20 nationally.
 
TOPS IN SBC
The Chanticleers come into the weekend as the best serving team and blocking team in the Sun Belt Conference. CCU leads the SBC and ranks 39th nationally in service aces per set at 1.75 and also leads the league and ranks 52nd overall in all of NCAA D1 volleyball with a blocks per set average of 2.47 on the season.
 
CCU also ranks first in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage on the season at .240 on the year.
 
999 .... 1000
With a Coastal career-high 21 kills on Sept. 26 versus Arkansas State, Doris Carter surpassed the 1,000-career kill mark, which also includes her time at South Florida and Alabama.
 
Junior Lina Perugini picked up her 1,000th career dig in the five-set victory over Georgia State (Oct. 2) where she had a match-high 23 digs. With her 1,098 career digs, the third-year libero is closing in on CCU's top-10 list.
 
CHASING 1000
The Chants' Cheyenne Jones has picked up 160 kills this season at CCU and combined with her 774 total kills at UTEP from 2017-21, she has 934 career kills over her collegiate career.
