Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Fowler Leads CCU past NKU on Historic Night

CONWAY, S.C. – Head Coach Shaun Docking earned his 300th win as the man in charge of the Coastal Carolina Men's Soccer program in convincing fashion by a score of 4-1 over Northern Kentucky on Saturday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium, headlined by Michael Fowler's first career brace.

With the win, the Chanticleers improve to 5-4-4 overall and remain 3-1-4 in Conference USA play, while the Norse fall to 6-10-0 overall and remain at 4-5-0 in the Horizon League.

"I thought the guys played really well," head coach Shaun Docking said. "It was a very good performance in a lot of ways against a very difficult team. Northern Kentucky [they] came to play and I thought they were very good."

The scoring started early for CCU as Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual netted his fifth goal of the season on a pass from Olle Brorsson in the 11th minute to put the Chants up 1-0. Coastal was awarded a penalty kick in the 41st minute following a handball inside the box called on the Norse. Fowler stepped to the penalty spot and converted to give Coastal Carolina a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Just five minutes into the second half, Fowler connected on a cross from teammate Alex Kinateder to notch his second goal of the night and third of the season in the 50th minute. Marcello Jones joined the scoring party, for his third goal of the season, as the senior found his way around the NKU defense in the 67th minute, Noah Glorioso recorded the assist.

Northern Kentucky tallied its lone goal of the night in the 85th minute as Jesse Randall notched his 10th goal of the season for the Norse.

The Chanticleers finished the night with a 19-6 shooting advantage and a 9-3 edge in shots on frame. Fowler finished the night with a match-leading four shots (two on goal), while Garcia-Pasqual and Jones each recorded three shots for CCU. The Norse did however find the advantage in saves 5-2 and corner kicks 6-5.

CCU welcomes the College of Charleston to Conway for their final match of the 2021 regular season on Wednesday, Nov 3. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at the CCU Soccer Stadium and will also be senior night.
