LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams both finished in 26th, out of 30 teams, at the Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Kentucky in Louisville, Ky., on Friday.
N.C. State won the women's race followed by fellow ACC member North Carolina while host Kentucky placed third with Furman and Liberty wrapping up the top five.
The women's 6k event saw Coastal's
Molly Jones as the top finisher, who came across the finish line in 48th place with a personal best time of 21:25.8. Jones' time moved her into the top 10 all-time CCU list for the 6k event.
The Chanticleers'
Meagan Moreno (22:51.4) and
Ashley Rulison (23:19.8) followed in 131st and 156th, respectively, while classmates
Jessica Martin (26:36.1) and
Ashley Dalleske (25:58.6) place in 216th and 218th, respectively. Martin and Dalleske both set personal records with their times.
The men's 10k event was won by Wake Forest with Furman, UNC, N.C. State, and Charlotte wrapping up the top five.
CCU's
Garrett Bivens was the first Chant to cross the finish line leading the charge as every Coastal runner set new personal best times in the 10k. Bivens placed 133rd with his time of 32:18.4, good enough for 8th fastest in CCU program history, while the next closest Chanticleer was
Michael Welsh Jr. 50 spots back in 183rd with his time of 33:55.9.
A trio of Chants followed nearby in 199th, 200th and 203rd.
Cory Fleeman, Jack Benoit, and
Gage Nielsen each finished within 10 seconds of each other with times of 34:42.3, 34:43.6, and 34:51.3, respectively.
Coastal's
Monroe Thompkins (35:20.5) and
Kaden Buchler (35:30.5) were the final Chanticleers to cross the finish line in 212th and 214th, respectively.
