CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will travel to Alabama to open Sun Belt Conference play this week, as the Chanticleers will first play Troy, on Thursday, Dec. 30, before heading to South Alabama, on Saturday, Jan. 1.
Coastal seeks to continue its winning ways after finishing non-conference play with a 10-1 record, while the Trojans begin conference play with 9-5 record and USA opens Sun Belt play with a 6-7 record. The Jaguars will host Appalachian State before the Chants make the trek to Mobile, Ala.
The Chanticleers are 2-0 on the road this season, while the Trojans (6-0) and Jaguars (4-2) are a combined 10-2 at home this season.
COASTAL vs. TROY HISTORY
The two teams will meet for the 12th time with Troy owning an 8-3 series advantage over the Chanticleers, as Coastal dropped all four contests in the 2020-21 season. The Trojans have a 5-1 record on their home court versus the Chanticleers compared to a 3-2 record in Conway, S.C.
COASTAL vs. SOUTH ALABAMA HISTORY
South Alabama completed a four-game sweep over Coastal Carolina last year for an 8-4 advantage over Coastal Carolina in the overall series. The Jaguars gained a 74-53 victory over the Chants in the first-ever meeting between the two schools in December of 1995.

Senior forward
Aja Blount leads the Chants with an average of 18.3 points per game while true freshman
Arin Freeman and senior
Tyra Brown averaging 8.9 and 8.7 points per contest, respectively. Freeman is leading the team in with 33 assists in the first 11 games. This season, the Chants are averaging 76.9 points per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the hardwood.
On the defensive end of the floor, Blount is the team's top rebounder having grabbed 97 on the season to average 8.8 boards per game while
Janae Camp is second on the team with 6.7 rebounds per game. Senior
Janeen Camp has blocked 25 shots over the first 11 contests, as the Chants are allowing just 48.4 points per game and holding opponents to a 32.5 shooting percent.
ABOUT TROY
Troy is averaging 80.6 points per game in its first 14 games of the year while shooting 38.8 percent from the floor overall. The Trojans' offense is led by Amber Leggett with 14.4 points per game while Felmas Koranga is chipping in with 13.1 points per contest. Jasmine Robinson leads Troy with 62 assists while Sharonica Hartsfield has aided teammates 40 times.
Defensively, the Trojans are allowing their opponents to shoot 38.9 percent from the field while allowing 71.8 points per game. Koranga and Leggett are the top rebounders grabbing 139 and 93 rebounds, respectively, while the duo of Koranga and Hartsfield leads the team with 22 and 21 steals apiece.
ABOUT SOUTH ALABAMA
The Jaguars enter play averaging 60.4 points per game in its first 13 games of the year while hitting 35.9 percent of their shots. South Alabama's offense is led by the trio of Jaylin Powell (9.6 ppg), Zena Elias (9.5 ppg), and Dee Haymer (9.1 ppg), as all are averaging over 9.0 points per game this season.
Defensively, USA is allowing their opponents to shoot 43.5 percent from the field and score 66.4 points per game. Elias and Powell lead the team with 9.5 and 4.3 rebounds per game, respectively, while Mahogany Vaught (23), Nadia Howard (22), and Kiana Anderson (20) leads the Jaguars' defense with 20-plus steals apiece.
