CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina volleyball head coach
Jozsef Forman is excited to announce the hiring of
David Nguyen as an assistant coach effective immediately.
Nguyen comes to Coastal Carolina after two seasons as an assistant coach at William & Mary from 2019-20.
"I am excited to announce the addition of
David Nguyen to our program as an assistant coach. I have followed his career since he came to our summer camps four years ago. Both his coaching and administrative experience as well as his knowledge of the DataVolley statistical program makes him a perfect fit for our program. His strong work ethic, dedication to the student-athletes, love for the game, and statistical analysis skills make him a great addition to our championship program. We are excited to welcome him and his wife Kaylin to the Chanticleer family."
Following his first season on staff in 2019, in which W&M recorded its most wins in a single season since 2016, Nguyen was instrumental in signing a 2020 class that earned honorable mention accolades by PrepVolleyball.com, which ranked the recruiting class as one of the top-100 nationally.
During the summer of 2019, Nguyen served as the USA Volleyball High Performance assistant coach for the Old Dominion Region's Girls Youth team.
Before joining the staff at W&M, Nguyen spent one season at the University of Virginia as the director of volleyball operations. During his time at UVA, Nguyen was directly responsible for video coordinating and statistical scouting reports. During matches, Nguyen was responsible for coding on DataVolley for live statistical feedback to the coaching staff. He was also the coordinator for all volleyball activities and budget management.
Nguyen was also given the role of camp director while at UVA due to his experiences coaching camps for UNC, VCU, and Coastal Carolina.
Prior to joining UVA, Nguyen spent four years on staff at VCU as a volunteer assistant. During his time with the Rams, he helped guide the program to an Atlantic 10 championship and an NCAA appearance in 2017. Nguyen helped the Rams to an RPI ranking of 35 in 2017 and 38 in 2013, with a record of 30-3 in his final season in 2017.
While at VCU, he was directly responsible for overseeing the team's scouting, film, and statistical operations along with assisting in the training of the setters and outside hitters.
In addition to his time at UVA and VCU, Nguyen has experience in the club volleyball ranks. He served as a head coach for the CAVC 17U girls team and was also an assistant for the RVC 16U boys team.
Nguyen earned his Bachelor of Science in general mathematical sciences from VCU in 2018.
