Chants Ready for SBC Indoor Track & Field Championships

Coastal will compete in the conference championships on Monday and Tuesday
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team will head down to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 22-23, at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Headlining the group of Chanticleers competing at the conference championship indoor meet is 2020 Sun Belt Freshman and Newcomer of the Year Melissa Jefferson who ranks first in the conference in the 60-meters (7.43) and second overall in the 200-meters (24.36).
Freshman Jermaisha Arnold will also be looking to score a championship win, as she enters the championships ranked first in the conference in the 400-meters (54.01), in which she has recorded three first-place finishes and two runner-up showings this season, and is fourth in the Sun Belt in the 200-meters (24.55).
Like both Jefferson and Arnold, freshman Kayla Sweeney, who is coming off her best meet yet at the USC Indoor Open last time out, will compete in two events by way of the 60 and 200-meters, in which she ranks fourth (7.57) and sixth (24.68) overall in the Sun Belt, respectively, while CCU's Shani'a Bellamy will also compete in two events, racing in the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meters. The first-year Chant ranks 14th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.89) and 26th overall in both the 200-meters (25.48).
Coastal's Keniah Wallace will join Jefferson and Sweeney in the 60-meter dash looking to beat her top time of 7.80 this season, while classmate Sydney Clemens (8.72) and sophomore Erin Palmer (8.97) will race along with Bellamy in the 60-meter hurdles.
Four Chants in Amaryah White (56.39), who ranks third in the Sun Belt, Lauren Gordon (56.99), who is sixth overall, Tariney Pepper (58.75), and Amelia Canetto (1:01.23) will all compete in the 400-meters along with conference-favorite Arnold.
Sophomore Ashley Rulison will represent the Chants in the distance events, racing for CCU in both the 3000 and 5000-meters where her season-best time of 18:29.46 ranks 10th overall in the 5000-meters, while teammates Nikki Boon and Anais Williams will compete for Coastal in the women's pentathlon.
In the field events, sophomore Kacey Lombard will throw in both the weight throw (14.17 meters) and the shot put (11.54 meters) events and will be joined by freshman Alexis Estep (14.40 meters) in the weight throw and first-year Chant India Wright (12.73 meters) in the shot put.
Sophomore Kadasia Evans will participate in the high jump event, where she ranks 11th in the conference with a mark of 1.63 meters, while freshman Kayla Ulmer is slated to compete in both the triple jump event, which she ranks ninth in the Sun Belt in with a mark of 11.64 meters, and the long jump event. Redshirt freshman Mycal Bowser will also compete in the triple jump event while teammate Zaria Stephens will partake in the long jump (5.04 meters).
