No. 5 Men's Soccer Opens Spring Season Against No. 4 Virginia Tech

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer program will open its 2021 spring season when they host Virginia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. ET at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

The match will be one of the top matchups in the nation as two nationally-ranked teams will meet in Conway. Virginia Tech (3-2-2) brings an impressive team into Conway that is ranked fourth in the latest United Soccer Coaches (USC) ranking. Their ranking is one higher than the Chanticleers (6-1-1) ranking of fifth.

The match will also feature three 2021 MLS draftees as the Hokies boast the no. 1 overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft Daniel Pereira and the 30th overall pick Kristo Strickler. Pereira was drafted by the Austin FC and Strickler by Houston.

Not to be outdone, the Chants have their own MLS draftee in goalkeeper Tor Saunders, who was picked in the third round by the Nashville SC and was later named to the MAC Hermann watch list.

The Chants are the reigning Sun Belt Conference Champions and will be playing in the NCAA National Championship in April. They are looking to strengthen their resume heading into the national tournament and the Hokies are the first of several ranked teams the Chants will face this spring.
