MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Coastal Carolina beach volleyball recorded its fourth 5-0 sweep of the season with a 5-0 win over Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon at the CofC Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The win is the second 5-0 victory over Jacksonville in the last week, as CCU defeated the Dolphins one week ago on March 13 at the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, S.C.
CCU improves to 8-4 on the season with the win.
The experienced duo of
Kalin Eske and
Kendra Lukacs picked up a win by default at the No. 5 position, as the Dolphins were unable to field a team in the flight.
With the 1-0 advantage, the first-time team of
Carli Ginther and
Ellie Hanford cruised to a 21-9, 21-12 victory at the No. 4 flight, while the reigning ASUN Pair of the Week and No. 1 team of
Irena Drobnjak and
Sarlota Svobodova dominated in a 21-12, 21-10 straight-set win to seal the win for the Chants.
The Sandy Chants completed the sweep with a 21-16, 21-17 win at the No. 2 flight by
Martine Kragholm and
Lucy Campbell, while the freshmen pair of
Sarah Riedell and
Emma Gonzalez held off the team of Rina Mitchell and Kathryn Wristen for a three-set win at 21-13, 12-21, 15-13 at the No. 3 flight.
The Chants will return to action at the CofC Invitational tomorrow, as CCU will take on UNCW at noon ET and host College of Charleston at 2:30 p.m. ET.
