CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will travel to Newark, Del. on Sunday, March 21 for a weekend matchup with the Delaware Blue Hens. The opening draw is scheduled for noon ET at Delaware Stadium.
Coastal currently is 5-2 on the season, after falling in back-to-back contests, while Delaware is 1-4 on the year, after losing three-straight contests. CCU and Delaware have met once prior to Sunday's contest with the Chants getting a 14-10 road win in 2019.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chanticleers have six players in double digits for points with
Samantha Courtemanche (20 goals, 14 assists, and 34 points) leading the team in goals, assists, and points. Redshirt freshman
Kayla Downey is second with 21 points on 13 goals and eight assists while true freshman
Monica Manley is third with 11 goals and seven assists for 20 points. Redshirt sophomore
Lauren Cremen is tied for second in goals scored with 13 while junior
Megan Bozzi (nine goals, three assists) and graduate student
Abbey Buchanan (eight goals, four assists) have 12 points each.
Defensively, the Chants are led by redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Claire Martell who has allowed 62 goals while facing 120 shots on goal. She has tallied 58 saves for a .483 save percentage and has earned all five wins on the season. The Verbank, N.Y. native has also caused five turnovers and grabbed up 16 ground balls.
Graduate students
Anya McSorley and
Emily D'Orsaneo aide in the defensive third by causing 13 and 10 turnovers, respectively.
Sarah Trupp, a graduate transfer, has added eight caused turnovers while scooping up 10 ground balls while D'Orsaneo and McSorley have 15 and 10 ground balls apiece.
ABOUT DELAWARE
The Blue Hens have three players in double digits in points as Danika Swech leads the team with 11 points on 10 goals and an assist. Kendra Schweizer and Kate Bradford are tied for second with 10 points each. Schweizer's points have come by eight goals and two assists while Bradford has added four goals and six assists.
On the Delaware defensive third, Kate Brewster has seen the bulk of the action by allowing 53 goals while facing 89 shots. The senior goalkeeper has a .376 save percentage while making 32 saves on the year.
Madison Hranicka and Maddie Maio have caused five turnovers each to lead the defense while grabbing up nine and five ground balls, respectively. Brewster is second in ground balls having scooped up seven.
