Chanticleers and Seahawks to Meet Twice in Midweek Play

CCU will host UNCW at Springs Brooks Stadium at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday night

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will return home to host a Tuesday night tilt with regional foe UNC Wilmington this week, April 27. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET from Springs Brooks Stadium.

The two teams will turn around and play again on Wednesday night, April 28, at 6 p.m. ET at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C.

Tuesday night's home game will be carried live on ESPN+, while Wednesday's road game will be on FloBaseball ($). Both games will air live on the radio at WRNN Hot Talk 99.5 FM.

CHARTING THE CHANTS
• CCU enters the two midweek contests this week at 19-15 overall.
• The Chants are 16-9 against non-conference opponents this season, including a perfect 4-0 in midweek games this year.
• CCU is coming off a 2-1 series loss at Liberty (April 23-25) last weekend but has won three of its last five games.
• Since defeating UNCW on April 14, the Chants have gone 3-4 over their last seven games.
• The offense is struggling this season, hitting just .248 as a team on the year. However, five different Chants have 30 or more base hits on the season while three players have over 20 RBIs on the year in Parker Chavers (27), Eric Brown (24), and Alex Gattinelli (22).
• On the mound, the pitching staff posts a 4.53 ERA, which ranks fifth in the Sun Belt. The Chants are also holding their opponents to a .256 batting average on the season which ranks sixth in the Sun Belt Conference.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
• The UNCW Seahawks are also 19-15 overall on the season entering play this week.
• The Seahawks are coming off a 2-1 CAA series loss at Elon last weekend but have won four of their last six games since falling to Coastal Carolina 8-2 on April 14.
• The Seahawks, who will play at Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night, are just 3-9 in road contests this season. However, the Seahawks, who will host CCU on Wednesday night, have been impressive at home this season, posting a 16-6 record at Brooks Field.
• Offensively, UNCW is hitting .266 this season with four players batting over .300 in Chris Thorburn (.333), Brooks Baldwin (.314), Taber Mongero (.307), and Kip Brandenburg (.304).
• On the mound, the Seahawks hold a 4.03 team ERA and 301 strikeouts over 303.2 innings pitched, an average of just under 9.0 strikeouts per nine innings.

ALL-TIME SERIES
• In 100 meetings, Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series 64-36 over UNCW.
• Separated by just 72 miles, UNCW is the third-most played opponent in CCU history behind only Winthrop (129 games) and Charleston Southern (104).
• CCU and UNCW met for the first time in 1975, with the Seahawks winning the first matchup 5-0 on April 18. Just 10 days later, UNCW won at CCU 14-6 on April 28, 1975.
• The Chants grabbed three of the four games played against the Seahawks in 2019 and are 8-2 in their last 10 games versus UNCW.
• Coastal is 37-14 all-time versus UNCW at home in Conway/Myrtle Beach, S.C., including a perfect 6-0 over the Seahawks at Springs Brooks Stadium (2015). The Chants are also 27-22 all-time in Wilmington, N.C.

LAST MEETING ON APRIL 14 IN WILMINGTON, N.C.
• Coastal Carolina's bats broke out for eight runs on 13 hits while the bullpen combined to hold UNCW to just two hits over 6.0-scoreless innings to lead the visiting Chanticleers to an 8-2 win over the Seahawks at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C. (April 14).
• The offense, which had struggled as of late, broke out for eight runs on 13 hits led by redshirt junior Parker Chavers (4-for-4, 2B, HBP, 2 runs, SB) with a season-high four base hits and junior BT Riopelle (1-for-3, HR, HBP, Sac Bunt, 4 RBIs, run) who hit his first career grand slam. Infielders Dale Thomas (2-for-4, HBP, run, SB) and Nick Lucky (2-for-5, Sac Bunt, 2 runs) had two hits apiece while outfielders Lorenzo Morello (1-for-5, 2 RBIs, SB) and Billy Underwood (1-for-4, BB, 2 RBIs, run) each drove in two RBIs in the win.
• UNCW was held to just six hits on the night led by two hits from Matt Suggs (2-for-3, BB, run) and an RBI from Dillon Lifrieri (0-for-2, SF, BB, RBI).
• CCU used six pitchers on the night, as Casey Green got the start and allowed just two runs, one of which was earned, on four hits, one walk, one strikeout, and one balk over 3.0-complete innings.
• The bullpen then went to Matt Joyce (1.0 IP, 1 K), Josh Jarman (1.1 IP), Reece Maniscalco (0.2 IP, 1 hit, 2 K), Luke Barrow (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 3 K), and Daniel Kreuzer (2.0 IP, 1 hit, 3 K), with Jarman (1-0) picking up his first career win as a Chant.

MIDWEEK MADNESS
• Coastal is 4-0 this season in true (non-Monday) midweek contests with a 4-1 extra-inning win at then-No. 16 Wake Forest (Feb. 23), an 8-7 home win over the College of Charleston (March 23), an 8-2 road win at UNCW (April 14), and a 6-3 win at North Carolina (April 20) last week.
• However, the Chanticleers have had just as many midweek games postponed or canceled than they have actually played this season. Their game with NC State on March 16 was canceled, while their two midweek games scheduled for two weeks ago versus UNCW (April 6) and College of Charleston (April 7) were both postponed.
• Since 2015, the Chanticleers are 36-25 in midweek contests.

BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN
• Following CCU's Tuesday night tilt at home versus UNCW (April 27), the Chants will hit the road for four consecutive games at UNCW (Wednesday, April 28) and Georgia State (Friday - Sunday, April 30-May 2).
• With the Chants' midweek road game last Tuesday (April 20) at North Carolina eight of the Chants' nine games have and will come on the road as CCU played at UNC (April 20), played three games last weekend at Liberty (April 23-25), will play one of two midweek games this week at UNCW (April 28), and then have a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Georgia State (April 30-May 2).

HOME SWEET HOME
• Coastal enjoyed #ThePalace for the first part of the season, as the Chanticleers played 15 of their first 19 games at home in Springs Brooks Stadium, going 10-5 at home during that span. The Chants are 11-7 at home this year.
• However, since March 23, a home win over the College of Charleson, the Chants have played just three games at Springs Brooks Stadium, the three-game weekend series versus Georgia Southern (April 16-18).
• Tuesday night's game at home versus UNCW (April 27) will be just the fourth and final home game for CCU for the entire month of April.
• Since the 2015 season, Coastal has recorded 20 wins or more at home each year, outside of last year's shortened season, and has tallied 144 wins at Springs Brooks Stadium counting this year.

#14 CHASING 1000
• Head Coach Gary Gilmore enters the week with 993 career wins as the head coach of his alma mater Coastal Carolina.
• That puts #14 just seven wins away from 1,000 career wins over his 26 years at CCU.
