TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After bad weather and lightning throughout most of the day in the Tallahassee, Fla. area and multiple changes to the Friday tournament schedule, the Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team fell to the No. 15 nationally-ranked Florida International Panthers 4-1 on day one of the Florida State Unconquered Invitational.
The loss snaps the Sandy Chants program-best winning streak at 11-straight games and drops CCU to 18-5 on the season.
FIU picked up a 21-12, 21-12 win at flight No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead.
After FIU sealed the match win with back-to-back straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5, the duo of
Lucy Campbell and
Martine Kragholm spoiled the shutout and kept their winning ways with a 22-20, 21-13 win at flight No. 2. The tandem has now won 12-straight matches.
The Panthers top flight held off CCU's team of
Irena Drobnjak and
Sarlota Svobodova in three sets (20-22, 21-12, 15-5) to record the 4-1 win.
The Chants are scheduled to play two nationally ranked teams tomorrow in No. 13 FAU at 10:15 a.m. ET and No. 17 Stetson at 12:45 p.m. ET.
