Chanticleers Ready for 2021 Sun Belt Baseball Championship Tournament

CCU will play in Pool A with Little Rock and South Alabama
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina baseball will open up the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship Tournament in Pool Play on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25-26, at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.
The Chanticleers, who are the No. 6 seed in the East, will take on the No. 4 (West) Little Rock Trojans on Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET in game one. CCU will then turn around to take on No. 1 (East) South Alabama on Wednesday at noon ET.
Both games will be video streamed live on ESPN+ and on the radio at Hank 105.5 FM.
• Game 2 – Wednesday, May 26, Noon ET
• The second-team honor is the third conference postseason award for Chavers who was named to the second team in 2018 and earned first-team accolades in 2019.
• The conference honors are the first for both Riopelle and Brown.
• The Chanticleers snapped the series losing streak with a 2-1 series win on the road in conference play at Georgia State (April 30-May 2).
• However, a series loss at home to Troy (May 7-9) and a series road loss at South Alabama (May 14-16) put the Chants at 1-5 in conference weekend series on the year.
• CCU was able to bounce back to record its first conference series sweep and second conference series win on the year over Texas State (May 20-22) in the final weekend of the regular-season slate.
• Entering this season, Coastal had won 21 of its 30 Sun Belt Conference series since joining the league, including winning nine of its 10 conference series in 2018.
• Following the 2021 slate, CCU has won 23 of its 35 Sun Belt Conference series overall.
• CCU's three-game series with Appalachian State scheduled for April 1-3 was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the Chanticleers' baseball program.
• The 2020 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
• The last time the Chants finished a season under .500 was in 2014 when the team went 24-33 overall.
• The Chants have only finished below .500 just three times in 26 seasons under head coach Gary Gilmore (1996 - 24-29; 1997 - 23-31; 2024 - 24-33).
• With the 14-9 win over Wake Forest (May 18) at home in midweek action, #14 won his 1,250th-career game.
• The hall-of-fame skipper picked up his 1,000th-career win as the head coach of Coastal Carolina, his alma mater, on Saturday, May 22, versus Texas State in the regular-season finale.
• CCU exploded for 14 runs on 14 hits in a 14-9 midweek win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (May 18) at Springs Brooks Stadium.
• The Chants tallied 11 two-out RBIs in the win, while their double-digit outburst was the first at home since scoring a 12-10 win over UConn on March 8.
• The 14 runs scored by the Chants, as well as the 14 base hits, were the second-most this season behind only 15 runs and 16 hits in the win over Davidson on March 5.
• CCU then scored 10 runs in a 10-5 win over Texas State (May 20) in the series opener and then capped the regular-season schedule with a 12-2, seven-inning win, over the Bobcats (May 22) in the regular-season finale.
• The Chants' bats broke out with seven home runs over the three-game weekend series versus Troy (May 7-9).
• CCU's 34 double plays rank second in the conference and 81st overall nationally.

THREE CHANTS GARNER ALL-SUN BELT POSTSEASON HONORS
• Coastal Carolina baseball had three student-athletes garner All-Sun Belt postseason honors the league announced on Monday, as Parker Chavers, Eric Brown, and BT Riopelle were all named to the All-Sun Belt second team.• The second-team honor is the third conference postseason award for Chavers who was named to the second team in 2018 and earned first-team accolades in 2019.

SUN BELT SLUMP
• For the first time since joining the Sun Belt for the 2017 season, the Chanticleers dropped their first three three-game conference weekend series with series losses at Louisiana (March 26-28), at UTA (April 10-12), and at home versus Georgia Southern (April 16-18).• The Chanticleers snapped the series losing streak with a 2-1 series win on the road in conference play at Georgia State (April 30-May 2).
