WHAT'S AT STAKE
- Coastal Carolina sits in seventh place with a conference record of 7-14 (.333), while Appalachian State's conference record is 7-10 (.441). To move ahead of the Mountaineers in the standings, CCU will need to sweep the opposition.
- If the above scenario occurs and the third-place Texas State Bobcats can sweep their three-game series versus fifth-place UTA (9-11), the Chanticleers will secure the fifth seed in the 2021 Sun Belt Softball Championship due to having the better winning percentage of the three teams.
- If App State wins one game this weekend, they will retain the sixth seed in next week's conference tournament.
LOOKIN' BACK
- The Coastal Carolina softball team got swept by No. 13 Louisiana last weekend at St. John Stadium by the scores of 7-2, 7-0, and 10-2.
- Graduate student Kayla Rosado batted .429 (3-for-7) with a home run, an RBI and scored two runs versus No. 13 Louisiana.
- After trailing 3-0 early in game one, Rosado brought the Chants within two runs, 3-1, with her seventh home run of the season. It wasn't enough as the Cajuns' scored four more times in the final three innings to defeat CCU, 7-2. In game three, after trailing 3-0, the Chanticleers scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as they got a pair of RBI from junior Mackenzie Beyer and sophomore Iyanla De Jesus and a pair of hits from Rosado and De Jesus. Louisiana scored six times over the final two innings to win 10-2 and the conference's regular-season championship.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

- The Mountaineers lost both games of last Saturday's doubleheader to the Mavericks as they could not score a run off the home team's pitching staff.
- The Mavs' Jo Jo Valencia received the win for UTA, while Allie Gardiner came on in the sixth to receive her fourth save of the season.
- Kenedy Hines earned the game two win for UTA as she threw a complete-game shutout while giving up three hits.

Keri White added two hits, while teammates Kayt Houston and Mary Pierce Barnes tallied a hit apiece.
HISTORY AGAINST
- The Chanticleers hold a 15-6 all-time advantage in the series and hold the longest win streak of seven games from 2014-2018.
- The only series on the road in Boone, N.C. for CCU took place in 2018, where Coastal Carolina went 2-1 at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium
- The last time the two teams met was the final weekend of 2019 when CCU took the series from the Mountaineers at St. John Stadium. Then-senior Natalie David led the Chants to the 2-1 series win as she batted 5-for-10, tallied three RBI, with a double and home run in the series. Kaitlin Beasley-Polko pitched in two of the three games for CCU and ERA of 2.25. The right-hander went 1-0 in the series, struck out eight batters, allowed seven hits, four runs, three earned, four walks, and a home run.
- Like this weekend's series, Coastal needed to sweep and take all three games of the 2018 season-finale to advance into the Sun Belt tournament. Coastal won the first two, 5-2 and 4-2, but Appalachian State spoiled the Chanticleers' chances as they took the third game, 6-4.
