CONWAY, S.C. – Former Coastal Carolina University men's soccer player
Claudio Repetto has signed a professional contract with the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League (USL), it was announced by Charleston Friday evening.
Repetto transferred to CCU after playing for two years at Grand View University. He played in 29 matches during his career with the Chants, starting 21 of those. He helped lead CCU to a regular-season Sun Belt title in 2020, and Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championships in both 2019 and 2020.
Claudio tied for the team and Sun Belt Conference lead in goals with five during the 2020 season and his 10 total points were second on the team and tied for sixth in the conference. He finished his career at CCU with 15 points on seven goals and one assist.
Repetto earned United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Southeast Region honors following the season, but he was just as successful in the classroom where he was a two-time Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll honoree and was named to the 2021 CCU Dean's List.
"I am delighted for Claudio to have finally gotten his big chance with a great club such as the Charleston Battery," head coach
Shaun Docking said. "He has worked tremendously hard for this opportunity over the past few years here at Coastal and his hard work, dedication, and persistence has finally been rewarded. We wish him nothing but success as he embarks on this next step in his soccer career."
The Charleston Battery, based in Charleston, S.C., were founded in 1993 and is one of the oldest continuously operating professional soccer clubs in the United States, along with the Richmond Kickers.
The Battery play their home matches at Patriots Point and has a 2-1-1 record in early-season competition. Repetto also joins former CCU teammate
DZ Harmon on the Battery's roster. Harmon signed with Charleston earlier this season.
